Hello

I have a problem with my mk2 zetec escort. When the fuel tank is full all goes well, but when half way down, and there is a right curve begins to fail as if the car runs out of fuel.

Anyone know what could be the problem?

Any solution?

Thank you

The problem is probably that you don't have any baffles in your tank.

As the level goes down, there's room for all the fuel that's left to flow to the left hand side of the tank as you go round a right hand bend..............leaving your pump to draw air as it sucks from the bottom right hand corner of the tank.

Solution is either to baffle your tank or fit a swirl pot.

In case you don't know, a swirl pot is a smaller vessel that the High pressure pump draws fuel from. It;s kept permanently full by a low pressure pump drawing fuel from the main tank.

Thanks for your reply, I had already thought of that problem. But what strikes me is even with the tank in half. Not sure.

What would be the installation diagram of the fuel swirl pot?

If the tank is half full, there's plenty of empty space for fuel to flow away from the suction pipe.

Simple swirl pot installation diagram:

But what if its half empty ?
