Streetfighter Posted October 25, 2010 Report Posted October 25, 2010 I've got a MK1 Cortina, and i'm wondering, what's the best and most cost effective way of creating some... Interesting negative camber? Right now I have standard steering and front suspension save for 3" lowering springs on the struts. Help appreciated because I love negative camber
100e pard Posted October 25, 2010 Report Posted October 25, 2010 Camber shims can be fitted. Usually fitted to correct negative camber to save on tyres but they can be used for an adverse effect. Negative camber is goood! Pard
Streetfighter Posted October 25, 2010 Author Report Posted October 25, 2010 I just think the stance of a car on wider rear wheels with proper negative camber on the front looks great. And having driven a few OSFs with pretty severe NC I much prefer how they drive and feel
Streetfighter Posted October 25, 2010 Author Report Posted October 25, 2010 Ha, that's a little to severe, I think the max i'd run would be between 10 and and 20 degrees and adjust obviously depending on cornering issues and tyre wear. That thing in the photo has to handle like crap
over_head_cam Posted October 25, 2010 Report Posted October 25, 2010 By lowering 3" you will have added a bit of negative camber already. 2 ways of getting more could be adjustable TCA's and/or eccentric top mounts. You might find you induce some interesting handling characteristics too
Streetfighter Posted October 25, 2010 Author Report Posted October 25, 2010 I've just realised I put between 10 and 20 degrees, I meant 2.5 - 10, i've no idea where 10 and 20 came from, I think that yellow thing has about 15 degrees...
sambo Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 Surely you dont want/need more then -3 degrees?
vibrating_Cake Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 check out rwd race cars... e.g. btcc bmw's DTM bmw's erm not sure what else is rwd in dtm tbh. you dont want much more than that negative camber really. . ive gotta agree though, ive seen a capri with a LOT of neg camber, looked pretty planted through the corners, but my zero camber option cornered better
Streetfighter Posted October 26, 2010 Author Report Posted October 26, 2010 My personal preference is around 4 to 5 degrees. And with the extra weight of a pinto up front it's gonna have more body roll, and therefore more scope for negative cancer to be useful. I did think adjustable TCAs and eccentric top mounts would be a good step. I just didn't want to commit before hearing suggestions etc.
vibrating_Cake Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 you gotta remember as you turn the tca goes upwards getting longer creating its own negative camber, also if you have a higher castor this helps neutralise the negative camber on the wheel thats wanting to be lifted and helps that stay parralell to the road whilst the loaded wheel also gains negative camber and stays moreorless parralell too
