GT_lenny Posted October 30, 2010 Report Posted October 30, 2010 without wanting to patronise is the engine/gearbox to body earth in good nick?
v8cortina Posted October 30, 2010 Report Posted October 30, 2010 Nice looking car. Have you tried adjusting the dizzy position, she might just be slightly off.
auldy Posted October 30, 2010 Report Posted October 30, 2010 any more pics of the car mate? looks nice! auld
MEXY867M Posted October 30, 2010 Author Report Posted October 30, 2010 will put some more pic up later, and will try some of your suggestion tomorrow thanks peeps
Tom Posted October 30, 2010 Report Posted October 30, 2010 Is it a fresh build? whenever I had the carbs or head of my pinto it wouldn't start without a squirt of brake cleaner down the trumpets
caprinerd Posted October 30, 2010 Report Posted October 30, 2010 mate i see you got the luminitions is it magnetronic or the optronic as i had some issues with an intermitent power break in mine and i used a bit of spray cleaner in the plug and problem was solved i used the optronic version
Pipster007 Posted October 30, 2010 Report Posted October 30, 2010 Just read this. It could be a similar prob http://www.oldskoolford.co.uk/phpBB2/vi ... p?t=122944
MEXY867M Posted October 31, 2010 Author Report Posted October 31, 2010 thanks lads what I cant understand is the spark from the plugs is wicked so she got that and she`s fireing but just not enough to go so would half of the problems we have suggested cause her not to start ???
v8cortina Posted October 31, 2010 Report Posted October 31, 2010 I had the same issue with my freshly built xflow. It was so close to starting it was getting frustrating. Just kept turning the dizzy in very small amounts then bingo. That is not to say this is your problem but it is worth giving it a go even if it is just to rule it out.
banarama Posted October 31, 2010 Report Posted October 31, 2010 if its got a spark and fuel .cheque the timing is right check it manually .ie no 1 piston is at the top of the bore, rotor arm pointing to number 1 iplug in the cap.make sure its not 180 degrees out.it should start. but easy to flood up with webbbers on,. it might have a sticking valve . personally id give it a tow start if everything is right its going go under pressure
MEXY867M Posted October 31, 2010 Author Report Posted October 31, 2010 Cheers Boss you know so,she`s being abit stubben at the moment, have checked time again re-done earth etc and at the mo she`s popping when turning the ignition off after trying to start her(like a back fire)
dssean Posted October 31, 2010 Report Posted October 31, 2010 i had a similar problem on my pinto. i gather youre running an electric fuel pump?? make sure your pump is well insulated on rubber mounts as they can create a frequency that fools the electronic ignition into firing all over the place. A good way to check is to pull off the king lead and then switch on ign then pump. if the kiing lead sparks before you crank the car then u have a fault. good luck as it took me ages to sort mine.
MEXY867M Posted November 3, 2010 Author Report Posted November 3, 2010 Nice pic mate she`ll be doing plenty of that when she`s up and running very soon God I cant wait
MEXY867M Posted November 3, 2010 Author Report Posted November 3, 2010 still no luck but she`s getting there thinking she needs more oomph like being towed up the road I reckon
sambo Posted November 4, 2010 Report Posted November 4, 2010 if its popping and banging like you say, then the dizzy couold be 180° out. I do it every time i start a new engine! also, is it a new high compression engine? it sounds like the starter motor isnt man enough.
