Apologies to Grizzley Dell.

I was meant to 'quote' your last post in reply to me but pressed 'edit' instead.

I fooked your post so had to delete it

It was the post about dodgy welding on here

hmmm

no worries steve, doubt anyone was interested anyway. people get funny when you have a go at thier welding :mrgreen::mrgreen:

i wonder how you all feel about us hairy people making our own hardtail chop frames then???? i know the only original part of my frame is the headstock. the rest was made from scratch, ive made a few. not a lot of difference.

I've been reading this post with great interest, but I've just been lurking ;)

I have seen some welding and 'fabrication' on quite a few old motors and I can honestly say I've seen (and driven ) some real nasty ones. Many of our OSFs look pretty dodgy when they are mid-build and there are lots of areas that we redo to bring them up to scratch. I think that as a club/forum/community it's not fair of us to poke fun or ridicule or be just generally rude about someone elses ride (unless it's an XR3 lol). Now I know we have our own opinions and many of us know what we're looking at, so surely we should be offering advise (it costs us nothing) and maybe we won't be seen as the forum that rips the piss?

Sorry about the 'rant'

best thing is to keep welding it [if you call it welding] then weigh it in

When I joined this site a couple of years ago the people on this site gave me loads of support and inspiration, even when I had my legs crushed everyone gave me the enthusiasm to carry on even in my wheelchair, I had another operation on my legs the other day so have had loads of time to sit here and read some of these down right nasty remarks, wheres all the support gone? or welcoming for new members? just cos it something aint to your liking it dont make it $hit.

{TO THE OWNER}CAN YOU POST SOME MORE PICTURES. IF ANY MORE WORK HAS BEEN DONE.:shock: WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO CALL IT?

I have a couple...but they are dark....unfortunatly my camera doesnt like taking photos in the garage, and its too blooming cold to push it out side.

I'll post up the reworking of the end of the inner sill where the 2 parts of the floor join in the next few days when i can get hold of a better camera.

as to the guy who posted about the floor being twisted when the roof came off, do you not think it would have twisted when it was cut in 2?

I can tell you, there were measurments taken for over 40 points, 20 diagonals and 20 lateral, I also took a lot of care to keep the rear submountings at the same angle as to which they were originally, 81 degrees.

I can tell you one thing for nothing, A S!erra is a LOT easier to do this with, all you have to do is cut along the ford joint at the rear of the pan where it joins the rear seat upright, remove the piece of floor still attached to the lip, shorten your forward section, and slide that back under the rear and spot weld it back together to replicate the ford seam. The bm floorpan is a LOT more complicated, and if I were to build another, from the experience of making this one, I would know where to cut, what sections need to be what shape etc....

I'm not saying I will, but once it's all together, I might just buy another compact, cut the compact out of this one and redo it from scratch. I might even do it with an M3....

anywho, there are more pics elsewhere, like retrorides, manchester classic ford, or even the e36 forum if you wanna do a search

out of curiousity, why did'nt you brace the floor while you cut the roof off? surely the vertical measurements are just as critical and a tape measure would cut it unless it was on a true jig
