went to go and see a car for the wife today thats advertised on autotrader. I usually never do this to be honest as working at a large main dealership i often buy trade cars etc but my wife wants a new fiesta diesel and there is non kickin about at work at the min!

Anyway back to my point.....we went to see one today that was being sold by a trader near essex, i spoke to him on the phone and said we are coming from 116 miles away and dont want to come if its not as good as she would like.

I asked all the usual stuff and he did drop a few quid on the phone as i didnt want to pay full retail as know what the car books at etc. He said the car has had no paint work repairs, is in good condition in silver with a/c etc

In the pics it looked well too! So off we went with the cash to go and see/buy it! When we got there the silver car in the pictures and description was light blue( not the end of the world as she didnt mind that!) I saw the towing eye cover was missing and a scrape on the front bumper with cracked number plate...rear quarter rippled and poor paint repair with sanding marks in it.....nearside rear bumper corner sticking out and retaining clips broken...nearside wing mirror glass cracked....front bumper not fitting under bonnet as bonnet bent and paint cracked....interior looked like the inside of a stable and smelt like it too!! On the whole a complete pile of shit!

I told him it was nothing like we expected and he said it wasnt that bad and in his eyes was as his descrition...good condition! He said he didnt realise that it had had accident damage as it doesnt show up on hpi....he also didnt grasp that not all people claim as they just get a bodge repair done...like the crap he was selling!

Anyway rant over...236 miles later....half a tank of diesel and a wasted day because....peoples ideas of good/very tidy condition are totally fooking different!!!

Just really bugs me cos if i am selling something and say its mint then it is mint! if im selling something with faults etc i will say its got this and that wrong with it and you best view it to make your mind up and decide if its for you or not!! argh!!

I too had the same issue when looking for a 'daily'.... its 'Mint' mate and was actually a pile of poo.....

hence a Gold Focus with a boot.... that IS almost mint....but was described as 'honest'

What a twonk!!! I would have given him a smack in the mouth!!!

Ok Ok, we all know what some back street traders are like (not saying that it is right) but when you specifically tell them that you are coming from a long way away they could at least have the balls to tell you the truth!!!

Yeah gotta agree, honesty sells a car, usually if you tell the people the faults they don't mind buying them and doing the things to make them "there way" but trying to hide obvious things like that just puts people right off

My dad was selling a 4x4 not long back, and the ABS light kept coming on, the guy we bought it from told us, and my old man didnt mind, we tried fixing it, with no luck, so when it came up for sale, its the 1st thing we told the guy that bought it, and also told him all the things we'd tried to sort it, so he could try and fix it also :thumbsup:

I don't think i'd have the guts to sell a car that isnt what you say it is, unless you cant see the bits wrong to report to buyers, as people will find out someway or another, especially with bodywork and paint

I took the ferry from Victoria to Vancouver and a day away from the family only to find a trashed pickup there instead of the good little truck advertised. the pics didn't show any of the crumpled body work and the owner didn't mention it. i guess he figured that i would buy it so i wouldn't go home empty handed. no thanks
