Posse Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 Is there any mods that have to be done for clearance ? And what sort of off set would you need My friend is looking at fitting 7in rims. Any help would be great. thanks Darren
4DOOR-SHERWOOD Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 Baileymex is your man as he fitted 15's to his mk1! I have 15s on the cossack but thats arched so not sure of clearance!
Posse Posted March 13, 2011 Author Report Posted March 13, 2011 Yeah I asked Colin but he only has 5in rims and he isn't sure on the off set.
RS2kSX Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 My 13 Ghia with 7x15 with 205/50/15 tyres i was only playing while they were off the X pack
Baz. Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 I have 15" compomotives on my Escort but 6" wide, mine touch on the inner arch a bit on full lock, and are close to the rear arch although they dont touch, because both rear wheels have a different offset due to the common problem of the axle sitting to the N/S More. Unless you can get a big offsett wheel i think they will rub using standard Axle lenghth, and rear tubs Baz
Posse Posted March 13, 2011 Author Report Posted March 13, 2011 Do you no what off set they were ? I take it you drove it with no probs.
Baz. Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 I think the fronts were something like E10 and the rear E19 and the other rear E20 something Drives lovely, nice diff, 5 speed and 15" wheels eats the miles no rubbing at all
Posse Posted March 13, 2011 Author Report Posted March 13, 2011 I think the fronts were something like E10 and the rear E19 and the other rear E20 something cheers for that he is running a Anglia axle and is planing on tubing the back.
kevmk2 Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 Is it a mk1 or mk2 Darren? I have semi tubbed my inner arches to aid with clearance. Will it have rear discs? If its drums with Anglia axle then 7x15 should fit no probs with 195.45.15's. I would still tuck up the rear arch lips though. My brother has ET12's on his mk2. Mine are ET10's from west wales rally spares, i had to have 5mm shaved off the inside of the rears to make them sit in a bit.

kevmk2 Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 Maybe worth asking Gary at Retro or someone at Image to make sure the offset it correct, cant go wrong then
Posse Posted March 13, 2011 Author Report Posted March 13, 2011 Maybe worth asking Gary at Retro or someone at Image to make sure the offset it correct, cant go wrong then Will do the wheels will be from image but by looking on there site its all down to orders them if there right or wrong lol And its a expensive fook up if it does lol.Like you said i think the backs will be fine its just the fronts when on the lock.
down2earth Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 I think if you want to run 16" on the front of an unarched oldskool escort the st.lock issue needs considering due to how low you want to run. The brake set up - suspension and chassis will also determine which wheel and it's width you can use not forgetting the tyre's overall width and diameter that you can use but all need to be safe of course ! You could use tyresave.co.uk, camskill.co.uk and carbibles.com to work out a few things like wheel width / tyre size etc to point you in the right direction. For example using a 175/50/16 (for better clearence) on the front of the car instead of a 195/40/16 tyre will have a overall diameter difference of 19mm so half that for a 9.5mm higher sitting car approx depending on tyre manufacturer. Fitting a 195/40/16 tyre against the 185/60/13 would sit the car 5mm taller approx ! On the back of the car if your intending to tub out a bit and still keep it unarched withh 16" then you might want to run a wider rim so tyre choice will come into play again depending on how low the ride height will be so what ever you decide will need thought especially as to what the type of driving you intend to do with it
Posse Posted March 14, 2011 Author Report Posted March 14, 2011 Thanks for the help I think he's going to pass on this just in case it goes tits up.
down2earth Posted March 15, 2011 Report Posted March 15, 2011 Thanks for the help I think he's going to pass on this just in case it goes tits up. No probs mate. Has your mate looked at some of the gallery pics on the Image wheel site under 'car photos/ cast photos' a few escorts to look at there. Also it's worth looking under the 'Information/ Technical' section if you havn't done already as there's a guide of how to select the wheel size etc. I would think the maltese guys would have some pics and info on fitting wheels as well. Or got 16"s on my one
