So .... you have a std 2.8 cologne v6 ..... what cheap or easy mods would you recommend for those of us who are a little financially challenged? Mods that would make a difference and not just look good.

Discuss ..... :D

The cheapest and most effective mod for the 2.8i is apparantly drop it out and fit a Granada 2.9i 8v. You'll get one for £50, they have a better injection system, more torque and more scope for tuning... So i'm told!

^^^^ What Morley Said ^^^^ or, get hold of a 24 valve Cosworth V6. :D

Doc, you can't chip a 2.8 mate, it's fitted with the Bosch K Jetronic mechanical injection system

The K Jet is a very agricultural set up and with the 2.9i being so cheap, its the most sensible way to spend your money...

if you want economy from the cologne then stick with the cast manifolds, not pretty but if you fit tubular jobbies you loose a great wodge of torque and the power band moves up you will allways need to push it hard to get the best, so stick with the standard manifolds but fit an ashley system.

i hear you is fitting the carbs, dgas i suspect, a little mod i do on them is to bin the auto choke set up and run without choke plates, not the best time of year to do it though, but saves loads of fuel from the cold start, and make sure you use the fuel return wit h the carb otehrwise they run rich at tickover.

fitting a leccy fan allways helps too, you wont notice a massive difference if any, but a kenlowe is a number 1 mod on any hot stuffy cologne, and will help it heat up lots faster, a good thing if youve got rid of the crappy auto choke.

the timing is critical on these engines and make sure your carb can be used with vac advance, its worth about 3mpg on a 2.8.

Another option which i have done to my cologne in me 100e, is to over bore 60 thou, 2.9 crank to stroke it (have to modify the nose to allow you to run timing gear instead of chain), you also have to deck pistons cause they come out top of block , change to steel gear at this point to. lightened flywheel, cossie clutch, V6T6 (hairy) Kent Cam, high pressure oil pump, standard 2.8 k-tronik injection. Tubular manifold 2 1/2 in system. Dynoed at 176 BHP, 211 LB/FT Torque, just pulls and pulls right through to 6000, no idea how much for conversion but was money well spent.
