Soon ill be in the market looking to buy a mk2 Moredoor. What are the main points to look at when going to view a mk2? Rust locations/Common faults/ what modifications to look at and stay away from ect.

The car will be a daily.

For one thing don't get caught out like I did!!! I bought a car which looked great. Once it was glass blasted I found it had been hit on the rear quarter and dressed up to look good . It is hard to find honest straight cars but be careful and don't rush or it can get expensive, I am a testament to that so be warned. I hope you find the one you are looking for .

Watch out for rust in the area between the back and front bumper

Still some tidy cars out there , take your time and if your not sure take another pair of eyes as they might see what you can't

Good luck ;)

Ditto about an extra pair of eyes and leave the rose tinted specs at home too. Take your time and look at a few which means be prepared to travel, though being in Essex is probably an advantage there seems to loads of cars from that neck of the woods. I managed to find a four owner genuine 65.000 mile car that had led a sheltered life, they are out there, good luck and dont forget to post some pics when you find one.

Good luck there's still a few nice one's out there,i bought a 1 family owner 1600 ghia with genuine 52,000 miles on the clock about 18mths ago totally original never been welded or painted, red one in my sig.

Not sure what budget you have but from experiance id say buy one as original as possible, take a magnet with you to check for filler !!

Normal places are arches, wings, top plates, the rear pillars go as well.

Depending on what happens mine may be for sale later on in the year, i got 2 mk1's that need paint so i may need to let this go to finace them

Yes mate, 52,000 miles from new Uncle, Aunt then the neice had it bought New from a dealer about 8 miles from my house.

If i do decide to sell it will be the higher end of the price band though.

With such low mileage, i wouldnt be surprised if i couldn't afford it. :(
