popeye Posted February 1, 2012 Report Posted February 1, 2012 5 STOREY BUILDING COLLAPSES …. City Gates, Clements road, Ilford... I’ve had a few calls from members who know I work on this site... I am (was) the foreman bricklayer for this project, with a gang of 4/2. We had been working at the site for around 6 weeks and every thing has been going ok... Safety record had been good; earlier on Tuesday we had a visit from H.S.E. and no problems had been found. A number of buildings in Clements Road remain closed today including the Ilford Travelodge, the Virgin Active gym, Redbridge CVS in the Forest House building and Redbridge Council’s housing advice centre and payments and benefits office. Had to visit the site last night to confirm no one had been left on site, 30 plus fireman with thermal image equipment, And as many police with sniffer dogs / ambulance crews … Meeting at the site this morning….just unreal to see. It’s not often I am speechless .. Big thanks to all the three services attended…. had been working on the second and top floor.. We were ALL very lucky, only left the site 5 mins before!!! So…. You ALL be careful out there…. POPEYE.

morcheen Posted February 3, 2012 Report Posted February 3, 2012 101 reasons why it fell ? i doubt that,some corner/cost cutting by someone and now a fire ?? lucky all the workers got out alive because we know they are virtually worthless when it comes to compensation paid out by the big companys.i've not worked on a site like this in a few years .
