stuartp Posted March 4, 2012 Author Report Posted March 4, 2012 well it made it 100 miles home in the pouring rain (which revealed that surprise surprise it's not exactly waterproof - both footwells were pretty damp) it ran a bit rough and stalled a couple of times in traffic but all in all it did really well on it's first long drive in years
Caz Posted March 4, 2012 Report Posted March 4, 2012 It did do well! I hope that it's the beginning of a beautiful friendship
stuartp Posted March 6, 2012 Author Report Posted March 6, 2012 might have a buyer for the sierra sorted - and if so it'll be going to a good home looks like i really will be driving a tatty looking (very tatty in places - i'll get some pics up in a thread soon) mk2 escort as my daily for the foreseeable future - this makes me happy not quite worked out as a money making venture though - will no doubt end up the opposite
stuartp Posted March 16, 2012 Author Report Posted March 16, 2012 UPDATE: Sierra sold Mk1 working and awaiting some engine attention from the Ashton boys (when funds allow) and a bit of bodywork tidying (when some other mythical funds materialise) Mk2 performing just fine as my rattly, slow, no stereo, needs a fair bit of tidying daily - enjoying it so far
Mr2Caps Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 Glad the MK2 is performing daily duties ok stuart, sierra is going well
Davewrc Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 Nice MK1, well worth keeping Everytime I see a silver mk1 I ask which shade of silver is it?
stuartp Posted March 19, 2012 Author Report Posted March 19, 2012 Glad the MK2 is performing daily duties ok stuart, sierra is going well good stuff it's damp and the clutch pedal vibrates quite loudly but apart from that it's quite a pleasant drive
stuartp Posted March 19, 2012 Author Report Posted March 19, 2012 Nice MK1, well worth keeping Everytime I see a silver mk1 I ask which shade of silver is it? mine is a modern mercedes silver (can't remember exactly)
gjh Posted March 19, 2012 Report Posted March 19, 2012 Deffo keep the escorts, unless you want to swap the mk2 for a good housewife? She can even do the ironing
Fiesta Steve Posted March 19, 2012 Report Posted March 19, 2012 I ran my 1981 (30 year old) Fiesta for 5 years as a daily and although I loved every minute of it, it went from a mint rust free car to a rusty car in a short space of time. The continues bombardment of salt over the last two (2010/2011) winters that did it.

The continues bombardment of salt over the last two (2010/2011) winters that did it. yeah i'm not expecting the daily to ever be mint (or even close) will get it more watertight, the rusty bits sorted and solid again and see how we go
stuartp Posted March 30, 2012 Author Report Posted March 30, 2012 haven't given the little 1300 any attention yet so i'm hoping a service will improve it somewhat but it seems to be about equal in fuel consumption with the 1.8 cvh in the sierra which is a bit of a disappointment
Mr2Caps Posted April 1, 2012 Report Posted April 1, 2012 That's a bit disappointing although I don't think the sierra is particularly thirsty,(try a 2.1 pinto on 45's!) had you thought about an LPG conversion on the MK2 if you are keeping it for a while? Maybe not straight away but maybe one to think about for the future.

Maybe not straight away but maybe one to think about for the future. i know the sierra isn't awful but i was seriously spoilt by my little cinquecento and it's amazing ability to go for miles on very little fuel (oh and i'd love to try a 2.1 pinto on 45s if you have got tired of yours ) i don't really know what lpg entails but i'll look into it - i reckon a decent service will do it the world of good for a start though btw the wife really misses that sierra and doesn't like the mk2 at all so i might well be nagged into selling it soon anyway (admittedly that was the original plan)

stuartp Posted April 4, 2012 Author Report Posted April 4, 2012 Nooooo buy ear defenders! heh! i'm resisting, don't you worry about that - my daydreams are full of lowering blocks, bigger wheels and shiny new wings main issues that will sway her will be (percieved) reliability, not having a damp passenger footwell, and maybe a decent stereo two out of those three i can sort myself, reliability (or the illusion of it not being constantly about to breakdown) may be harder to remedy, especially considering it hasn't actually failed me at all yet (unlike the mk1)
