Jiffer Posted April 19, 2012 Report Posted April 19, 2012 I have a type 9 five speed from a 2l in my cortina, I have been offered a type 9 from a V6 with the end of the input shaft cut off, will it fit ok or do I need to swap the input shaft, also are the boxes the same length as I have had a HD prop made and dont want the expence of getting a new one made. cheers
monkeymoreton Posted April 19, 2012 Report Posted April 19, 2012 the input shaft will be different as the type 9 for the 2 litre has a smaller shaft and the type 9 that came with the 2.8 had a longer shaft
Jiffer Posted April 20, 2012 Author Report Posted April 20, 2012 the input shaft will be different as the type 9 for the 2 litre has a smaller shaft and the type 9 that came with the 2.8 had a longer shaft shorter as just in length?, is it just as easy as cuting it down and dressing the end? cheers
monkeymoreton Posted April 20, 2012 Report Posted April 20, 2012 I think you'll have to swap the input shaft over with one from a 2 litre its worth it as the v6 has better ratios
gearbox100 Posted April 20, 2012 Report Posted April 20, 2012 I beleave you have to make the v6 shaft shorter and the spline section shorter aswell , i`m not 100% sure but i dont think you can swop the shafts over has they are not interchangable . There is a thread one 105 speed where someone machines the shaft down on the v6 box so might be worth a message to him .
Stiggy Posted April 20, 2012 Report Posted April 20, 2012 Needs to be cut back as it's too long. Been over 20 years used to have the info but moved on, much better set of ratios on the V6 box out of the Capree. One of the 2.3 German Taunus had the best ratio set, same as the RS1800 box which had the "Rocket" ratio set.
Admin Vista Posted April 20, 2012 Admin Report Posted April 20, 2012 You definitely can do it by trimming down the input shaft but I don't know by how much. To fit a 2.8i type 9 to an Essex the trick was to use a V4 bell housing and take 14.7mm off the shaft of the 2.8i box. If you have access to both boxes can you not just measure the difference in length to establish how much you need to take off it?
LUKE261 Posted April 20, 2012 Report Posted April 20, 2012 2 litre stock car boys go for p100 gearbox for the ratios
louie bagel Posted April 20, 2012 Report Posted April 20, 2012 its ok bruv we can always weld a bit back on if you cut off too much
LUKE261 Posted April 21, 2012 Report Posted April 21, 2012 you have to chop a bit off get them both on the floor and measure the 2 litre box SIMPL3S
