i was at work the other day, after five days of sickness and sh*ts

well i felt a bit rough dizzy etc, so went out to get a breather, then fainted /passed out,,,,,,,,,,,, my mate called an ambulance, they came , my blood sugar was 3.2 they gave me a biccy my mate gave me a cuppa and i was better, not perfect but better.

eventually igot a mate to run me to the doc's i mean im 49 may need a check up, ok four days of dodgy belly and not keeping anything down, he may be able to help, hmm?

No not really he contacted DVLA and they revoked my licence for 6MONTHS !

yup now any time a driver FAINTS , PASSES OUT , IS KNOCKED OUT you can loose your licence ,you have to appeal to get ot back, no kidding, AND IF i get it back it will be WITHOUT my trailer licenceand not 7 ton class.

not fair in my mind

Don't know what to say to that Mike, sorry to hear it and get well soon? On the one hand I'm gutted for you but on the other I can see the sense in taking a break from driving, you wouldn't want to risk a repeat incident with your family in the car would you? I don't get the logic for not reinstating your other entitlements at the same time though, what's their reasoning behind that?

apparently all other classes are removed, as mine is revoked and if i can prove i am physically well, the i will be granted a

"NEW LICENCE" Not my old licence!

ok i was ill,BUT I WASNT DRIVING!

ok it was food poisoning, but its not permanent!

i had a licence for 32 years NO POINTS EVER! Yes suspend it to allow for examination! then decide what to do,i had mine revoked with no medical examination.i had full med exam 2 days after date of DVLA letter i KNOW i could risk other road users but some drivers are responsible enough to take a suspension, if they are not they would drive any way whether banned or not .

after a faint, knock out , passing out ,fit ,it could be you!

Couldnt believe this when you were telling me the other day, truely gutted for you mate.

Knowing you live out in the sticks and drive as part of your business im sure it's having a knock on effect for you, chin up though and get better soon.

On another note i'm still wanting to pop down to visit and take a look at what we spoke about the other day, still interested

looking at pink dresses savvi? is that what you were talking about the other day?

seriously, my ex had epilepsy and she didn't give up her licence that easily....although that was years ago. i see cash changing hands in the dvla's favour!!!

Oh My God .... that seems a bit harsh! Taking away someone's licence because they have food poisoning??? Have I read that right ??? :?:?:?:?

Yes and no, they'll have taken it away because he passed out, not because of the Food poisoning. The inference being that if you've passed out once, you might do it again so they won't allow you to drive until you've gone 6 months without an "episode". I have (had, he's dead now  ) a friend who had a head injury some years ago, initially he was prone to fits or passing out and wasn't allowed to drive for 6 months after each incident.

I understand the safety element .. that is not my query. What I am querying is that people pass out all the time for various reasons ... I am surprised the doc just didn't tell him to not drive for a week and lay in bed (or something like that) while he carried out further tests ... I am surprised that anyone can go to the docs and say they have fainted (for whatever reason) and the doc will report them to the dvla. :?

I know, seems a bit knee jerk doesn't it? Can you appeal it Mike?

The dvla can revoke a licence for a medical condition, or changes in your health, not a short term illness which food poisoning is. Can your gp not write to them explaining this?

It's a drivers responsibility to ensure they are fit to drive, and if the doc thought otherwise, would he not need to carry out further tests to assertain the problem? Without medical proof I can't see they have a leg to stand on :banghead:

Good luck if you do appeal this

In the world we now live in i'm guessing the Doctor did this to cover his arse !!!!

Lets face it how many people decide to claim for any little mishap these days with all the ads that appear every 5 mins or so to claim for this claim for that !!!!!

THANKS GUYS, yes scot i can appeal, i am going hell for leather trying to get full blood test results [due friday] had full physical blood pressure [perfect] all results good .

all backs up my claim for a temporary illness with short term effects, hope fully doc will back me up in his letter [that i have to pay for] am pre-empting further questions and arranging consultant neurologist appointment if they need it. appealing next week, thought it better to come back with medical evidence, rather than just a protest of unfair treatment.

will update, and now i wonder how many of you would see your doctor in the same way if it meant you had this happen !

This license thing is a bit worrying. Imagine there was something wrong, but you didn't get attention because you were worried about losing your driving privileges. I wholly understand the temporary suspension, but to not reinstate it wholly does seem a bit odd.

Hope it's sorted soon

None of it makes sense. At our lorry firm, we had two drivers over the last two years suffer heart attacks, one resulting in having Stents put in. At no point were their licenses suspended, or their entitlements altered. But I also know someone who has diabetes, and almost immediately their licence was suspended and entitlements reduced, on re issue to 3.5ton max.

my mate 47 passed out at work last week went to hospital for check up given a fix of sugar went home visited doctor he said he had epilepsy now his licence has been taken away

so it looks like its a regular thing then ,that makes me feel a bit better , its just i feel really bad about it , you lust dont know how bad it is to be NOT able to drive for even two weeks.

its like having been nicked for drunk driving! everyone locally knows me and my cars and suddenly im walking everywhere or cycling i reckon its what they all think.

i am now going to send the appeal off and see if i can get the ball rolling.

so, update, appeal is sent 26 pages of blood test results, confirming major viral infection.

neuro consultant report with , quote "this case should never have been sent to DVLA as this was a totally explainable faint" from bath hospital specialist.

ambulance report saying ,low blood sugar collapse, hospitalisation not reqd.

full medical from doc {not the one who stitched me up]showing healthy result

now, lets see what happens now!

wish me luck, Mike
