Was at the train station yesterday morning and I noticed there was a lot of transport plod about "chatting" with different people, anyway went on with my business as you do and then I got stopped and asked would I mind answering a few questions and a search of my daybag.

Now I have no objections to being stopped and if I can do my "bit" all very good and well but the thing that pissed me right off was when they told me that they were only doing it to instill some "confidence" in Joe Public, now correct me if I'm wrong but all the terrorist activities that this country have been subjected to since the IRA called time ( dont start me off on that one either ) have been by non-white individuals so what is the fookin point of stopping me then, if they want to "instill confidence", the plods words not mine then surely they should be stopping those who are'nt white.

Now if this comes across to any of you as racist, tough shit, I dont think it is, to me its common sense

 

Rant over.....but I'm still pissed off, Ive got mates overseas who are fighting for there lives and were pissing about over here tip toeing around sections of the community because we darent upset anyone.

I was not having a dig at the plod, there only doing what there told, I was polite, and helpfull and would do so again if asked.

 

I dont agree with your comments about singling certain parts of the community either. Why not, oh thats right we cant upset people now can we They can plant bombs in dustbins, carry them on there person, leave them on buses, but god forbid anybody upsetting someone.

 

And daggle, I appreciate better than most about how difficult your job is mate, but until you've done it in parts of the world where your just a figure 11 in a snipers sights, you have it fairly easy.

Yeh, i thought it was an easy job and then my mate got stabbed beside me, oh and the time I had a glock pulled on me. all the time knowing that I had nothing to protect me apart from a metal stick and some gas..... roll on the time when all the police are armed....

AT LAST, A Meaty debate to get into, I can see this one going on for a few pages.

 

For what it's worth I'm all for selective searching, It's worked for El Al (Israeli national air carrier) for decades and they've been at the forefront of islamic fundamentalism for far longer than we (or any other western nation) has.

 

BUT unfortunately in this country while the majority of terrorist acts are (as you rightly point out) perpetrated by the islamic community, the vast majority of this same muslim community are in fact peace loving individuals who would like nothing more than to live alongside us in harmony. To that end I feel it's important that we show a united front against the small minority of them you do wish us ill. If that means I must open my bags occasionally and be subjected to a random search in order for the peace loving muslim community to see that all are being treated equally then I am happy to do so. The only way we will beat these people is by showing them that their opinions of us are misguided and genuine peace loving muslims are welcome to live alongside us.

 

I should perhaps add that I am also an ex - serviceman and have spent significant time in conflict zones that have included the middle east. It is my experience that whilst we may not agree with their beliefs and life style, they have as much right to be treated fairly as we do. The first step in that chain IMHO is to avoid singling them out. Fine if there are 20 people on a platform and 5 muslims are there then search all 5, but at the same time search 5 others too.

I don't want to say much on this because we will end up with pages just from me alone. It is a subject I feel very very strongly about, believe me. Your point about your friends being in these countries fighting for us in those tough/extreme conditions is something I do feel very strongly about as well.

 

I will say this though, what with all this shite going on today and all these attacks on the British and their country (THE UNITED KINGDOM), I feel it is a damn insult to the men and women who fought for our country and freedom in the first and second world wars. I would love to know what most of these peoples views would be if they were still with us now. Soon this country will have no identity, and the history behind us will soon not matter to anyone. I mean there are even members of our own nationality who don't give a f**k as to what has gone on in the past i.e. world wars, people loosing their life for fighting for their king/queen and country.

 

It makes me sick and annoyed. BTW, I am in full support of THE RIGHT TO FREE SPEECH, if anyone has a problem with one of my beliefs i.e. FREE SPEECH, they can f**k off!

The day that happens is the day I pack my bags and emigrate, I sympathise with your feeling, but I guarantee it Daggle the day all police are armed is the day more of you start to die. If you have guns the criminals will all want guns. You only have to look at the number of people that die in gun crime in the US for an example.

 

For instance if you are pulled over for speeding in the US and you get out of the car, the copper will have his gun out safety off and finger on the trigger and you are the nervous reaction of what may be a pimply faced 21 year old away from death. Not a country I want to live in

I think a lot of people feel the same on this thread - wanting to reply but worried they'll start and not stop.

 

Having spent a part of my childhood growing up in a muslim country - I get angry - very angry - at the way special treatment is given to muslims. We were treated like shit because of the colour of our skin and the fact that we were Christians.

We had to abide by their laws even if they were wrong - sexual harrasement and discrimination of white was expected!

Imagine being a 7 year old child moving from Shetland to a county that was so hot I didn't need clothes - yet forced to wear stuff that covered me from head to foot!

While living there we respected their country and religion - and yet in our country we pander to their every need.

 

As jimbob said if our great grandparents could see the state our country is in now -they wouldn't have bothered to fight for it in the first place!

Oh god what have I done, Ive never had a meaningfull debate with anyone before, in the past all Ive done is "lock and load" and the conversation tends to dry up

 

Personally I dont agree with arming the Police, for the simple reason is I would'nt trust half of them with an "alabama lie detector" let alone a firearm. I think the system we have now where we have properly trained armed response teams is much more suitable for us as a nation and I daresay there's quite a few bobbies who wouldnt want to be armed as well.
