As above,i'm not sure what to do

We've just had another baby and the GT still needs work doing to make it tip top but I know i'm not gonna have the time (or money!) to do it.

In view of this i'm considering selling and giving up my secure storage and getting something cheaper and renting a council garage.

The problem I have with the GT at the moment is although ive now got it running superb i'm getting a trace of oil in the water header tank. Its just had a full engine/running gear rebuild (which took me over 2 years and £2k in parts!)

I think it may only be a breather issue but it'll be another 2 years if im lucky before I manage to sort it.

Its costing me nearly £100 a month to store it so its not really feasable to just sit on it until i'm ready to crack on so selling as it stands seems like an option

I'm not sure how i'd value it though, so any opinions of those who know the car free to give me your two penneth! :)

My thoughts family first car is just a bit of metal ( luxury) at the end of the day . There is no way i would make myself skint over a car. I no its a hard thing to do trust me I Know . But what ever you do I’m sure it will be for the best

Try and find a way to keep it if poss

Even if it is a smaller single garage or a mates garage

Once its gone you'll regret it forever

Been there recently and thankfully made it work and still own mine

Maybe just take it off the road Darren and like col said try and store it somewhere abit cheaper or for free. Then you haven't got storage fees, tax mot etc to worry about and get it back out when your more straight.

Hope you manage to keep it mate as its the :tits: but family comes first.

It really is a tough one, I've been pondering the same thing about mine. Hardly use it, need to spend thousands to get it where i want and can save hundreds a month if it was gone.

To be honest i'm loosing interest in it too, which is making the reasons to get rid sound even better.

I think if i had a car as sorted as yours id hang on to it but you gotta do what you gotta do! Maybe put the feelers out and see what sort of cash youd get for it? might make the choice for you!

I was thinking that maybe I'll put it up for sale and see what happens. If it were to sell I'd get something else, always wanted a mk1 mex and x flow would be the kind of engine I wouldn't mind having a tinker with myself. Or maybe a 4 door with rear selt belts so we can all go out in it. A 4 door original mex is for sale at the mo which would be right up my street!

It's not a case of struggling to keep the storage financially but I'm starting to begrudge £90 a month to keep a car that I'm not even using. I've done that for the last 2 years and just when I thought I'd got it tip top this happens and it's disheartened me a bit.

I got it to have some fun and do a few bits as and when, not spend 90 percent of the year fixing it and the other 10 driving!

I guess my mood will pass and I'll get stuck in over the winter, I do love the car cos there's not another quite like it

Yeh I have mate. I like the lotus lump cos it's different but all the specialists are oop north which makes some things difficult. An different engine would be quite a major operation for me due to the chassis mounts and bulkhead mods I have. If I went pinto for example I'd like to put the bulkhead back to standard otherwise it would look odd, and that's before i even start on the engine and box. A shit hot engine it would have to be aswell to replace that one. Who knows I suppose, I have lots of options to ponder it will just boil down to how much money I'm prepared to put in!

Sometime next year i will be getting a car transporter so if you need it moving let me know, i do wonder why you have oil in the water after the rebuild that don't sound good at all.

The guy who built the engine seems to think it may be a breathing issue. I'd be surprised if it was major, cracked head or block etc. head gasket is new so surely that hasn't gone. I wouldn't have thought the head or block were warped as I didnt have this issue before the engine was rebuilt and it only spun the big ends. Someone has also suggest that it may have come from the rad as I didn't flush it before I re fitted it.
