Who's that? He got a consul? Just trying to work out sizes, might be a while before I get to putting one on or when I've saved up for one. Dunno wether to run English or atlas :-/

IIRC escort axles are 48.5" wide, mk1 capri is 50" and mk2/3 capris are 52"

thats tha width of the axle casing im pretty sure. so add probably about 5"? for overall width. hope that helps

stick a mk1 capri axle under it its only 1" extra a side and has a 3.09 diff use a differant offset to push the wheel back in

What engine, box and tyre size are you intending to use with your axle? 3.09 is a very tall ratio that gives long legs on a motorway run but is better suited to big capacity engines with lots of torque.

I'm after a long ratio vista, for motorway driving an ill have enough torque matey

I run a 3.54 in my escort with type9 5speed an 175.50.13 tyres but that'll be way too revvy for what I'm after.

If I can't get hold of one ill have to run a 3.54 but unsure this will be low enough for me.

Mk1 Capris had English and Atlas, think it was onls the V6s that had the Atlas? Mines a 1600 and its deffo a 50" English. Mk1 capri Atlas is pretty rare though and therefore expensive. Does plenty of torque mean V8?

To be hones t mate I cant remember! whatever is standard for a 1.6 capri! 3.77:1 maybe? speedo shows 60 at about 3500rpm if that helps?

Hi welshmike yeah with 13" wheels that sounds about right. Want less revs. Gonna look for the final drive calculator on here an work out what to do :-/

Ive got 15s with 195/45/15s, probably similar rolling radius as standard. but tyre size doesnt affect what the speedo shows, mine reads about 10% fast.

Tyre size absolutely does affect your speedo reading, it also affects your gearing. It's the 175/50's that are are causing your revs problem (i.e. too revy at high speed) get shot of them and it will disappear.

This is for my project that will have to have bigger tyres an wheels I think to get my revs down.

P.s. tyre size affects how accurate your speedo reading is compared to how fast your actually going.

yeah i reolise that, should of worded it differently.. what i ment was at a particular rpm in a particular gear your speedo will read the same regardless of tyre size. just to clear it up

must have been classic ford its been a while ive been busy building a shed for my cars to live in the dry sick of working outside in the rain an flooded garden an rebuilding the rally car as i made a mess of it round snetterton in feb

mk1 3.0 cappa is a narrow atlas can be found on bay sometimes for not alot of coin just dont get fooled into it being a baby atlas baby atlas is 48" narrow atlas 50"

I could get away with one of them with the wheel offset I'm planning to use, an would be perfect but others will be thinking the same an that seems to boost prices, what are they worth complete?

What's the difference in koln axles? What diffs do they have, they are rear loading so are they ineterchangeable with anything else to achieve a ratio around 3.0-3.5?

I can only answer your last question. They're not strong at all, in fact a reputable axle builder describes them as weaker than a standard English axle.
