Tom E Cropp Posted January 13, 2013 Report Posted January 13, 2013 if the cars old skool, then the engine should be too!

deltamal Posted January 13, 2013 Report Posted January 13, 2013 Don't know about the modern engines, done the 1700 stage 3 Crossflow, 2.1 Pinto, 2.0 nasp YB, 2.4 nasp YB with nos, now playing with a 2.950 12 valve V6 Cologne, re cammed, big valves, ported, with DTA management, the old stuff is good!
Skimmer Posted January 13, 2013 Report Posted January 13, 2013 Im glad youve put my mind straight as a few months ago some fool told me his Zetec was better than my Cosworth engine ........i promptly left him at the lights .....nice to be reassured by a top engine builder W.ayne ARE S.H.I.T that is all

turnover Posted January 13, 2013 Report Posted January 13, 2013 zetec are shit seen 3 go tits up in a few months in one car if it starts knocking the rods leave shortly after unlike cvh shitter drove it for 2 weeks with oil light on and knocking also done 110mph on a knocking one never went bang xflow didnt sound good tho on knock I know what your saying but how much does it cost to get 150 hp from a xflow ,I can't comment how reliable they are but I know a few people who do have them fitted and have had no problems
Escort Mk1 4 Door Posted January 13, 2013 Report Posted January 13, 2013 145 on a rs1800i engine and 2 rods left engine, splitting the block in 2 and the sump all tho after pulling out snapped rods it did start again in a mk3 xr3i, wasnt much faster then my 1.3 xflow mk1 4 door tho when it was working
rallyesport04 Posted January 13, 2013 Report Posted January 13, 2013 they aint that bad there a cheap throw away engine i would never bother fitting one to a oldskool old cars should have a old engine or atleast a old looking engine but for a fwd there easy to shoehorn in if your ok with elecs your away. scholar built a 1.4 zetec (sigma engine) for a chap in a rally car an it produces 165 horse not bad for a so called shit engine i had a kit car with a stock 2.0 black top zetec std cams std bottom end all it had was a 4 branch an 45's it was rolling roaded at 174 horse didnt think that was bad at all
Escort Mk1 4 Door Posted January 13, 2013 Report Posted January 13, 2013 sigma is not a zetec tho like a st170 is not a duratec even tho its badged

cdeane74 Posted January 15, 2013 Report Posted January 15, 2013 Im glad youve put my mind straight as a few months ago some fool told me his Zetec was better than my Cosworth engine ........i promptly left him at the lights .....nice to be reassured by a top engine builder W.ayne ARE S.H.I.T that is all il race ya!
Escort Mk1 4 Door Posted January 16, 2013 Report Posted January 16, 2013 love my wanky cvh's tho can drive for weeks with big ends knocking lol
rallyesport04 Posted January 17, 2013 Report Posted January 17, 2013 the 1.4 sigma may not be a zetec but the 2.0 black top is an i didnt think it was too bad wpe what sort of revs can you get out the 1.4 sigma before it throws a leg is it worth getting arp's i have one of these my new cams are 4500-7800k both said engines still aint as good as a old pinto bottom end with 8 vavle or 16 valves in my opinion and cvhs are propa shite i would rather have a zetec than one of them pieces of crap
w p e Posted January 17, 2013 Author Report Posted January 17, 2013 safe 6000 rpm on std bolts but wouldnt old them revs as the rods aint all that them cams seem a bit much for a 1.4
rallyesport04 Posted January 18, 2013 Report Posted January 18, 2013 its a rally car 1400cc max the next class is 2000cc with bd escorts dont fancy chasing them even tho its only a bit of fun i want someone to race against
Nick Posted January 18, 2013 Report Posted January 18, 2013 I've just been reading up on se engines (1.4/6/7) as if you put arp bolts in them, they can rev to 8k, some people are pushing 220bhp from the 1.6 with cams, bodies and management not bad if you ask me only trouble is there not a ford pcd bell housing so won't simple bolt up to a box without an after market bell housing :/
rallyesport04 Posted January 18, 2013 Report Posted January 18, 2013 220 what did they have bolted in them the 1.6 specs ive seen with cams bodies an remapable ecu is in the region of 170bhp tho they were home builds not blueprinted open cheq book race engines still 170 out a 1.6 is pretty good as said above they are a bit of a bd/cos copy but if a certian design works well why change it
cdeane74 Posted January 19, 2013 Report Posted January 19, 2013 i got over 170bhp from an ebay 400 quid ST170,yer getting it in cost a bit but if it explodes its a cheapish fix wld love a cossie motor but its the cost, the STs plenty quick enough
