I know what your saying but how much does it cost to get 150 hp from a xflow ,I can't comment how reliable they are but I know a few people who do have them fitted and have had no problems

they aint that bad there a cheap throw away engine i would never bother fitting one to a oldskool old cars should have a old engine or atleast a old looking engine but for a fwd there easy to shoehorn in if your ok with elecs your away. scholar built a 1.4 zetec (sigma engine) for a chap in a rally car an it produces 165 horse not bad for a so called shit engine i had a kit car with a stock 2.0 black top zetec std cams std bottom end all it had was a 4 branch an 45's it was rolling roaded at 174 horse didnt think that was bad at all

the 1.4 sigma may not be a zetec but the 2.0 black top is an i didnt think it was too bad

wpe what sort of revs can you get out the 1.4 sigma before it throws a leg is it worth getting arp's i have one of these my new cams are 4500-7800k

both said engines still aint as good as a old pinto bottom end with 8 vavle or 16 valves in my opinion and cvhs are propa shite i would rather have a zetec than one of them pieces of crap

safe 6000 rpm on std bolts but wouldnt old them revs as the rods aint all that them cams seem a bit much for a 1.4

I've just been reading up on se engines (1.4/6/7) as if you put arp bolts in them, they can rev to 8k, some people are pushing 220bhp from the 1.6 with cams, bodies and management :) not bad if you ask me :) only trouble is there not a ford pcd bell housing so won't simple bolt up to a box without an after market bell housing :/

220 what did they have bolted in them the 1.6 specs ive seen with cams bodies an remapable ecu is in the region of 170bhp tho they were home builds not blueprinted open cheq book race engines still 170 out a 1.6 is pretty good as said above they are a bit of a bd/cos copy but if a certian design works well why change it

i got over 170bhp from an ebay 400 quid ST170,yer getting it in cost a bit but if it explodes its a cheapish fix  wld love a cossie motor but its the cost, the STs plenty quick enough
