Admin Vista Posted February 15, 2013 Admin Report Posted February 15, 2013 Somehow I lost the ignition key for the RS on Monday!! Does anyone have a mk1 ignition switch assembly complete with at least one key available? I don't need the electrical switch, just the key section
mk1estate Posted February 17, 2013 Report Posted February 17, 2013 i bought a new switch from a mini,i guess mine had been changed at some time but as some low life tried to nick my car i needed another one and the mini one was a straight swap for me and it was only a tenner brand new and came with 2 keys
Admin Vista Posted February 17, 2013 Author Admin Report Posted February 17, 2013 You mean you inserted a mini barrel in place of the existing Ford barrel?
Savvi Posted February 17, 2013 Report Posted February 17, 2013 I think you getting mixed up with differant types of ignitions. Early ones had no steering lock, where as the later ones had steering lock fitted. Mk1estate has my old car and that didnt have a steering lock fitted This is a later type http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-Escort-m ... 257abadd50 This is a mini one but same as early mk1's http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lucas-31973-4 ... 337dd360c0

I had an email exchange last night with an Old Skool Lock guy that someone on here recommended and got this answer (I don't recall any mk1 escorts ever having a dashboard switch though). It's a real pisser as I only had the key in my pocket last week when I went to move the car, put the same jacket on the next morning, no escort keys Probably a very late Mark 1 Escort, then, since most cars had the dashboard switch. There is NO easy way round this, the SCL had 1000 key 'differs' , cannot easily be disassembled and is more-or-less unobtainable anyway. All you can do is to try and find a good locksmith who is willing to undertake automotive work (that is, 'pick' the lock) - and they're few and far between. Sorry to give you such bad news.Regards, Lock Man
mk1estate Posted February 22, 2013 Report Posted February 22, 2013 my mate lost the keys to his fiat punto and i got a locksmith round and he broke into the car then open the boot from the inside of the car then removed the boot lock and dissapeared in the back of his van with a key he made, he then had to sort out some electrickery magic to the key so that it worked the immobiliser and all it cost was £70,
flyingbanana Posted February 22, 2013 Report Posted February 22, 2013 if you really do get stuck this might be worth thinking about http://www.keycare.co.uk/

Think I've sorted it now as I tracked down a NOS ignition switch assembly complete with two keys. Just got to swap it all over.
