Brett Posted March 4, 2013 Report Posted March 4, 2013 Hey guys. I have nearly finished restoring my first car which is a 2 door mk2 escort. It has square lights and im wonderinf if putting driving lights on it would make it look weird. I wish it had circle lights but everyone says to keep it origional. anyhow here is some photos
aardvark101 Posted March 4, 2013 Report Posted March 4, 2013 Did they not make a grill with built in square driving lamps back in the day ? Of course a lovely set of two up, two down Cibie super Oscars does lend a certain panache
Brett Posted March 4, 2013 Author Report Posted March 4, 2013 You dont think they are for circle headlights only?
aardvark101 Posted March 4, 2013 Report Posted March 4, 2013 There you go, E-bay U.K. 181094682357 Item number:
Brett Posted March 4, 2013 Author Report Posted March 4, 2013 I found some replicas Item number 290872308905
welshmike Posted March 4, 2013 Report Posted March 4, 2013 I say keep the square lights, deffo keep the full length bumper and no spotties. its a great looking car as it is, get some 7" wheels on there with plenty of dish and it will look perfect. Although if your gonna be blasting along some dark country roads at night and youl actually use the spots then go for it too many people stick em on just for 'the look' ive seen a few sets that wernt even wired in just my opinion though, its your car at the end of the day. wouldnt it be boring if everyone liked the same things?
marky4 Posted March 4, 2013 Report Posted March 4, 2013 I would leave as is looks great [THUMBS UP SIGN]
Brett Posted March 5, 2013 Author Report Posted March 5, 2013 Ok well as of the moment im not sure what i want to do with it. Its just a standard 1980 model. How much do you think this will be worth in a few years (dont know if aussie price is different to UK) Because the front and rear bumpers have some pretty noticable dents in them and i was just contemplating quartner bumpers and lights if im going to be fixing it. Time to think while i install new carpet and passenger mirror
Admin Vista Posted March 5, 2013 Admin Report Posted March 5, 2013 Rust free 2 door models already fetch good money here but that's irrelevant in Australia unless you're planning on shipping it here to sell. If you really want spots, what about a set of rectangular ones? The mk1 1300e escort was available new from ford with a full width bumper and rectangular spots
Brett Posted March 5, 2013 Author Report Posted March 5, 2013 Really only wanted spots forthe ocasional country drive and to hae the stereotypical 2door rally look. But i guess i should keep it the origional square light smart look
mk2 mike Posted March 5, 2013 Report Posted March 5, 2013 I've got 2 up 2 down super oscars on mine. (Round headlight) but I think I prefer cars without. I like the 'clean' look on a mk2 so I'd say leave them off, or as suggested go with 2 period square lamps. Lovely looking car by the way, what cour is that?
Admin Mk2Jo Posted March 5, 2013 Admin Report Posted March 5, 2013 I love a square headlight Escort .... lovely motor Brett 8-)8-)
Brett Posted March 6, 2013 Author Report Posted March 6, 2013 What do you think about escorts with a stripe down the side, i like the look of the stripe the mexico and the 1600 sport had. How d you think it owuld look if i had one of those put on without and branding.
welshmike Posted March 6, 2013 Report Posted March 6, 2013 Personaly i like the Mk2 maxico stripes. but the thick stripe that says escort at the back that loads of Aussie escorts had looks a bit poo. But build the car you want mate
mk2 mike Posted March 8, 2013 Report Posted March 8, 2013 too many people stick em on just for 'the look' ive seen a few sets that wernt even wired in Does make me laugh when people say this. I've got a roll cage in my car, does that mean I should put it on its roof?
MEXY867M Posted March 8, 2013 Report Posted March 8, 2013 Looks nice how is bud but end of the day it's what you like

welshmike Posted March 10, 2013 Report Posted March 10, 2013 too many people stick em on just for 'the look' ive seen a few sets that wernt even wired in Does make me laugh when people say this. I've got a roll cage in my car, does that mean I should put it on its roof? if it did ever end up on its roof, youd be glad you had it though. I happen to like the look of 2 up 2 downs on a rally car but it makes me laugh when someone spends 400 od quid hanging a brace of cibies off the front of their car, knowing they will never take the covers off cos the cars only used on sunny sundays. and not wiring em in would be like only tack welding your roll cage in - pretty pointless. At the end of the day people can and should do whatever they want with their own car, but the guy asked for opinions so i gave him mine
