The price of the MK1 RS2000's are really up at the moment and there seems to be no sign of it stopping if you've got the right car.

What do you guys think, will the price keep going up? obviously we can't see into the future but how do you see the market in say 5-10 years time?

Well, with the money I have in the bank gaining next to nothing in interest, I've nothing to lose by holding on to the RS as the money I paid for it in 2005 would never have translated into what it's worth now if left in a bank account.

As long as they remain desirable and the people who wanted but couldn't afford one in their youth keep wanting one now they can afford it, I think the prices will keep creeping up. Look at Twin cams and RS1600s after all.

The flip side is that it makes them more attractive to thieves and those that want to pass fakes off as the real thing

No, prices will not drop.

It's the same as with the house market.

Buyers might dry up as times get hard and those having money issues may drop prices in order to shift their cars for sale. Those who do not need to sell/have a lot of money tied up in their car will keep prices up.

Don't forget they rot, get stolen, broken and wrapped around trees quite frequently, pushing prices up again.

That said, what will happen when the 'average' middle age man/doris wanting to re-live their child hood decides that the spax and 3" drop is no longer good for his/her spine... Maybe then there might be a slgiht drop. Still, over a long period the values will increase.

I'm not sure I would class a mk1 escort as an investment however, not if you own it, use it and upgrade it. You'll end up shelling out more money than it will be worth if you look after the car properly. There are better, quicker and easier ways of making money than buying a mk1 escort.

I think they are going to hit a ceiling, I don't agree with Mickey S. everything has a price and what people are prepared to pay. You see Twincams and RS1600s advertised for mega bucks but unless they have a racing/rallying history they don't sell and keep on being advertised. I sold an Escort Twincam 2 years ago and I didn't get £40 grand for it!! Saying that if you can get a good RS for reasonable money it's still probably a better investment than leaving money in the bank with no interest rate!!
