RossMK2 Posted May 10, 2013 Report Posted May 10, 2013 so i am now 18 and still cant insure my escort and still have to get my dad to drive it. have tried litrally everywhere, most wont even insure me worst thing being i am loosing interest and fast... yet my daily this year is only gonna cost me 500 to insure this year with 2 years ncb (2012 ford fiesta metal 134bhp) rant over
mk2 mike Posted May 10, 2013 Report Posted May 10, 2013 When i was 18 In 1991 my insurance on a 1978 1100cc mk2 escort was £750 TPFT. what's yours coming in at?
RossMK2 Posted May 10, 2013 Author Report Posted May 10, 2013 on a classic policy £15,000 all mods declared and even that policy couldn't be given to me apparently. and i cant use a standard policy as my daily takes up NCB.
mk2 mike Posted May 10, 2013 Report Posted May 10, 2013 That's crap mate. I'm sure you have ready but have you tried A plan? They seem to be the cheapest at the minute. 1
GJUK Posted May 10, 2013 Report Posted May 10, 2013 Claire @ A plan is worth a go. Or Adrian Flux for the younger driver (god I feel old typing that)
SebringRS Posted May 10, 2013 Report Posted May 10, 2013 What about just adding you as an additional driver on your dads insurance on it at the mo? As you'll only be driving it to and from shows and meets etc.
GJUK Posted May 10, 2013 Report Posted May 10, 2013 It's a bitch, I was there a few years ago. 18 year old are not meant to have 'classic' cars. That's what insurance companies think anyway. Keep at it, you will pay a lot to insure your car however, with mods. 1
GJUK Posted May 10, 2013 Report Posted May 10, 2013 What about just adding you as an additional driver on your dads insurance on it at the mo? As you'll only be driving it to and from shows and meets etc. That is not how it should be done.

Escort Mk1 4 Door Posted May 10, 2013 Report Posted May 10, 2013 peter james, i was 21 just past no ncb 1275gt mg midget 375 quid a year 3rd f&t 340 a year now on a 1.3 mk1 escort
mk2 mike Posted May 10, 2013 Report Posted May 10, 2013 Just as well. 'Fronting' is illegal, you'd be committing fraud (by false representation) and insurance companies are shit hot on this at the minute. I know for a fact that some insurance companies are using private surveillance teams to get evidence of suspected 'fronters' and have them prosecuted. You think your premiums are high now? Wait till you tell the insurance company you have a conviction for 'fronting' and see if they'll insure you! I know its shit but just hang in there and you'll get insured eventually.
RossMK2 Posted May 10, 2013 Author Report Posted May 10, 2013 Yeah i know mate, thats why i got my own policy on my daily. I did ask if i could be added to my dads policy but i would only driven it on wales run, not to any other events. I'm hoping i can insure soon and at the minute it feels like dead money sitting there. 1
Kevin Mk2 Posted May 11, 2013 Report Posted May 11, 2013 I got my mk2 Escort van insured with Footman James for ~£160. I'm 29, but they were the best quote by a country mile.. several actually. Might be worth giving them a ring.
Admin Mk2Jo Posted May 11, 2013 Admin Report Posted May 11, 2013 Try Footman James - they have just started insuring younger drivers as long as its not your main car.
RossMK2 Posted May 11, 2013 Author Report Posted May 11, 2013 Tried footman james. You have to be in one of the clubs on there list, old skool ford isn't on there
5tox Posted May 11, 2013 Report Posted May 11, 2013 I insured my old sierra cosworth with footman james on a classic policy and wasnt part of any club, saying that... it was a couple of years ago and they may have changed the rules since

walsh253 Posted May 11, 2013 Report Posted May 11, 2013 can you not join 1 of the clubs (i havent looked at what they are)? =lazy
In The Pit Posted May 11, 2013 Report Posted May 11, 2013 One of the problems could be due to the mods you have, if you remove them you may be able to insure it cheaper as it would be to manufacturers spec. In general insurance companies don't like mods on any cars, and they are no fan of imports either.
aardvark101 Posted May 11, 2013 Report Posted May 11, 2013 Ask them whats stopping them insuring you, if its just your age then youre stuffed,if its age & mods maybe you can swap things around for the time being
welshmike Posted May 11, 2013 Report Posted May 11, 2013 Whats the spec of your car Ross? Whats your job? and do you live in a dodgy area or something? kept in a garage at night? I have been insuring modified old skool fords since i was 17, never had any issues, some expensive quotes but never payed more than about £3000 a year. Im 22 now, insured on my Mk1 Capri as a daily, all mods declared, £1500. Might be worth dropping in a standard lump for a while? at least then your driving it.
SebringRS Posted May 11, 2013 Report Posted May 11, 2013 If they'd make insurance cheaper then there'd be no need to go on your parents policy Im on my own policy as I use it everyday, had to fork out alot for the first year, but got a cheap deal this year. Somehow went for £3000 last year, to £650 this year? :S Insurance companies must make the price up as they go along But you can see why people do it, its pretty much half the price.....
radjay mk1 Posted May 12, 2013 Report Posted May 12, 2013 my classic policy is with brentacre, give them a try.my policy is £138 for me and my mate fully comp. i dont know what there age policy though. 01792650933
