can you not join 1 of the clubs (i havent looked at what they are)? =lazy

None of the clubs are really ones i could get away with joining.

One of the problems could be due to the mods you have, if you remove them you may be able to insure it cheaper as it would be to manufacturers spec.  In general insurance companies don't like mods on any cars, and they are no fan of imports either.

yeah that is one of the big issues,

Ask them whats stopping them insuring you, if its just your age then youre stuffed,if its age & mods maybe you can swap things around for the time being

yeah its age mostly tbh, most classic insurers dont do under 25 and some dont do under 21.

Whats the spec of your car Ross? Whats your job? and do you live in a dodgy area or something? kept in a garage at night? I have been insuring modified old skool fords since i was 17, never had any issues, some expensive quotes but never payed more than about £3000 a year. Im 22 now, insured on my Mk1 Capri as a daily, all mods declared, £1500. Might be worth dropping in a standard lump for a while? at least then your driving it.

1700 fast road ashton xflow, ajustable gaz dampers and single leafs with lowering block, coilovers on front, type 9 5 speed, wheels, pollybushed and all the mods the mode that have to be done to allow these bit to be fitted. its always in a locked garage. To be honest i would rather not drive than put it back to standard after i have spent the money on it.

If they'd make insurance cheaper then there'd be no need to go on your parents policy

Im on my own policy as I use it everyday, had to fork out alot for the first year, but got a cheap deal this year. Somehow went for £3000 last year, to £650 this year? :S Insurance companies must make the price up as they go along  But you can see why people do it, its pretty much half the price.....

my classic policy is with brentacre, give them a try.my policy is £138 for me and my mate fully comp.

i dont know what there age policy though.

I started that process the other day when I read the first comment from you about us not being on it. Though I don't specifically have a contact address for their marketing dept.

Its a long time ago now but i had to drive around in a mini1000 for a ferw years to build up the no claims before i could even concider a modified car , so even has a second car i`m not suprised you cant get insurance tbh . !700cc modified classic car , i think you are going to have to be 21 before you get a decent quote.

things must have changed i had the escort with footman james when i was 17 on a classic policy was only around 800 quid aswell, it was insured as a standard 1300e back then as it pretty much was. even as it sits now it was insured with sureterm for 400 odd quid when i was aged 22. phoning up resently it seems it hasnt got any cheaper even tho im over 25!

I've had an official reply from their club rep ... I will post it tomorrow as its on my work email.

Good or bad news thats the question

I cant take the suspence !!!!

escots are more popular now and higher value also high theft risk and as my insurance company keep telling me to justify the cost, they are higher risk.... escort is almost double the cost to insure than my Caterham

They arent that interested on what we think really .... they asked the opinions of clubs they are affiliated with on what cars to include and that's how they came up with their list of insurable cars for the under 25's. Certainly the Mk1 Fiesta is not included! I may invite the report rep to reply to this post!

So the clubs they asked just said what cars where in there club  and forget about the thousands of other classics.

At the end of the day i am probably in the minority, some people who cant get insured wouldn't think twice about driving it anyway whereas i wont.

Just looked at their website is the list one from what they have listed as enthusiast clubs? if so The Sporting Escort Owners Club is there that caters for all MKI & MKII Escorts and is a well established club (was started in 1985).  Worth joining if you have a MKI or MKII anyway. www.seoc.co.uk

Good Afternoon

Thank you for your email which has been forwarded to me for a response.

The reintroduction of a young enthusiast scheme has been high on our agenda for some time and has been entered into very carefully in order to manage risk responsibly.  We have tried very hard to design a scheme which will allow us to identify the true enthusiast rather than just any young driver with a pre-1986 car.

Our initial task was to look at the club partners we are affiliated with and offer cover to members of those clubs.  From this list of clubs we looked at the vehicles which those clubs cover which gave us a list of acceptable vehicles to work from.  The list of clubs has been widely publicised in the classic press and you'll note that all these clubs are marque specific and encompass the type of vehicles which are an acceptable risk to the insurer.  As we have no relationship with any Fiesta specific club it follows that we wouldn't be able to offer cover to young enthusiasts with these vehicles.

I note your question regarding the possibility of your son being insured on a much more powerful RS2000 and can confirm that all RS and Mexico versions are excluded from the young enthusiast scheme.

Identifying the true enthusiast is not an exact science and I'm sorry that we're not able to offer cover for your son at this present time.  It's inevitable that some genuine enthusiasts may be excluded by our efforts to be cautious but I hope you'll agree that this responsible attitude is necessary to preserve the longevity of the scheme.

Best regards

Dave

I continue to discuss the stance that Footman James are taking (on both OSF as a club and the Mk1 Fiesta) with their representative. However discussions are not proving fruitful and it seems unlikely that FJ will see reason and amend their position. Disappointing to say the least.

There is however another ray of hope for younger drivers. With the help of Simon Woolley of CF magazine, we have tracked down another insurance provider looking to provide classic policies to younger drivers and they DO recognise Old Skool Ford as a club. See attachment from RH Specialist Insurance and give them a try

how about if you used your no claims on the escort, it may put premium up on the daily but better to have higher insurance on the daily and insurance on the classic than none on the one you want the most, just a thought

Yeah ran some quotes doing this the other day, can insure it third party fire and theft for £800, and only puts daily up £60. But would obvioulsy rather have a classic policy if possible.

Is the reason that OSF is not recognised because they see it as web based rather than a club in the traditional sense?

No, that's not been mentioned at all. In any case most clubs have a web based presence nowadays so I would dismiss that argument from them as irrelevant

I renewed my policy with Footman James a couple of days ago and while I was on the phone the guy told me that they wouldn't be taking on any new policies in Northern Ireland, it will be renewals only from now on.  Bit of a kick in the teeth TBH, there are few enough companies offering cover here at a reasonable price.
