ive heard that you can get copies of the MOT docs previous owners and any other history for a car but where do i go, what will i get and how much will it be?

never heard about being able to get previous mot certs.

but im sure for a fiver the dvla will supply you the previous log books if you write to them .

ive never done it but it might be worth a call and ask what you need to put in the letter .

and unless you know the garage where it has been serviced and they have records there isnt a way of getting the service history back . even if they do have records you wouldnt get a stamped record book you would if anything just get an invoice with final prices on it .

send £5 and a cover note to the dvla and they will send u copies of old v5 etc and what they have on record, they dont have old mot's tho

you need to know which garage and time of year that they were done to get a 2nd mot ticket from the mot station....all mot's are logged into a book which the garage has to keep up to date...boring job filling those out

You can get replacement MOTs from the garage they were initially issued at, not sure how far back you can go, but I managed to get a MOT backdated 2 years for an insurance related issue, I had assumed an accident where I had been rear ended had long been sorted, so the documents got binned, and about a week later I had a letter asking to provide the documents as the Photocopies I had sent were not acceptable,

MOT stations generally dont want to do this, as they need to know issue details, as the search is a maunal one, and the MOT books need to be searched to find the old MOT.

Or wot he said above

i know the full history of my car but only have the last 5 years worth of history  which is when it changed hands from its original owner so im guessing he kicked the bucket and the car was sold off.
