dalmarshall Posted June 3, 2013 Report Posted June 3, 2013 After 4 years of ownership its time for a change so my GT is now offered for sale. 1971 Tax Exempt A Genuine 2 door GT with only 4 previous owners, in its original colour of Maize Yellow which is very rare being available only for 1 year. No rust, a very clean solid shell The engine is a 2.2 Lotus 900 Series as used in The Lotus Sunbeam, Lotus Esprit, excel etc. For those unfamiliar with these it is a 4 cylinder slant engine, all alloy so its very light in comparison with pinto's etc. The spec is as follows: Excel HC crankshaft, cross drilled HC rods with new Accralite pistons, ARP Rod Bolts Head ported by CTM Twin 45 DHLA Dellorto carbs, newly refurbed All new SFS Silicone hoses Rolling road tuned this year at 174bhp AT THE WHEELS, so arguably 200ish at the flywheel. It is a very quick car Gearbox is a Toyota W58 5 speed which is not a 'mismatch'. Lotus used this box in the later Excel being a very strong gearbox Running gear is an English axle with Quaife ATB and 3.9 diff. Anti Tramp Bars have been added as per RS2000/Mexico spec Suspension: Front, Gaz Coilovers Rear, De cambered (Gartrac) single leafs, 1 inch lowering blocks, Gaz adjustable shocks Brakes: Front, AP 4 pot calipers (Princess) with grooved discs Rear disc conversion Bias pedal box, Willwood Cylinders, remote servo The alloys are Midland Wheels 7 x 13 RS 4 spoke (unmarked) with Yokohama A539's. These have hardly any wear Interior: Recaro Leather front seats with Sparco 3 Point Harnesses 6 clock dash as per GT spec with 130mph clocks Wood Pack Springalex style steering wheel Other stuff: Headlights are repro ones from Australia which take Halogen H4 bulbs, much brighter than std New Odyssey Race battery Bad bits Following a recent engine rebuild, oil has appeared in the header tank, no water in the oil though Following the rebuild, the rev counter isn't working, so its probably just something I haven't connected! The passenger door only opens from inside. It was like this when I bought it and has never bothered me enough to investigate further as I rarely take passengers! The MOT has expired. Im sure it will pass but i'm reluctant to drive it too far with the oil in the header tank. In view of the bad bits I will let the car go for £7k FIRM. No Less or i'll keep it. I am in Basildon, Essex and i'm on 07966 771954 No PX or swaps etc unless you have a mint Harrier
Posse Posted June 3, 2013 Report Posted June 3, 2013 Love this car .. she will fly out the door ready for your next one
Savvi Posted June 3, 2013 Report Posted June 3, 2013 Wow ............ that seems too cheap to me for such a stunning car, good luck with the sale Dal.
XjamesX Posted June 3, 2013 Report Posted June 3, 2013 wow, i would like that, a lot! If only I had somewhere to put it
mk2 mike Posted June 3, 2013 Report Posted June 3, 2013 Mate that's far too cheap. I'd love it Edit. : I'm tempted... Can you PM me your number dal?
Tall paul Posted June 4, 2013 Report Posted June 4, 2013 Good luck dal, love this mk1, it'll fly away mate. Make way for a nice harrier! 1
mk2 mike Posted June 4, 2013 Report Posted June 4, 2013 Cheers dal just read the ad properly and saw your number on there d'oh! Was too busy looking at the pics to read the words lol
Savvi Posted June 4, 2013 Report Posted June 4, 2013 Just hope a dealer dont buy it to be on ebay the same day £5k dearer ............ that has happened a few times in the last few weeks, i sold my GT UNFINISHED FOR £5K so this is really cheap in my eyes, now desperatly thinking of how i can get some money togeather
dalmarshall Posted June 4, 2013 Author Report Posted June 4, 2013 7k is what I gave for it 4 years ago. I have put another £2500 into it in that time and prices have obviously shot up in the last few years but the cars I see going up for sale at top dollar aren't shifting so at the end of the day, I'd be happy with 7k back and a fast easy sale. I can't be arsed with dealing with all the messers coming round for joyrides and trying to see where it's kept etc etc. it is a hell of a bargain.......and it hasn't been mag featured yet either!!!!
thrashermax Posted June 4, 2013 Report Posted June 4, 2013 Good luck with the sale, that is a hell of a motor...
Skimmer Posted June 4, 2013 Report Posted June 4, 2013 £7k's a fair price and should sell without all the timewasters that seem to appear , better to get what your happy with than have advertised for months / years at silly price and i can never see why comments like ''too cheap'' get posted especially in the last few years with the financial climate were all in at the moment ,if its too cheap buy it and make a few quid , by the way lovely car
daveaphillips Posted June 4, 2013 Report Posted June 4, 2013 Nice to meet you at CF mate! Sold already eh? Blimey! I'll keep my eyes out for a Harrier for you Cheers, Dave
mk2 mike Posted June 4, 2013 Report Posted June 4, 2013 Gutted. I was just about to a scrape the cash together. oh well look forward to seeing the harrier
XjamesX Posted June 4, 2013 Report Posted June 4, 2013 I'm gutted too, as I was gonna give you a call about it too if I could arrange getting a trailer down south this week. Had the cash too
dalmarshall Posted June 10, 2013 Author Report Posted June 10, 2013 She's been collected today, on her way up to Leicester I'm sure the new owner will reveal himself in due course Sad to watch it go up the road
BaileyMex Posted June 10, 2013 Report Posted June 10, 2013 Sad day that its gone, is the new owner on OSF? I had a Harrier once..............once it was rotten and didnt have enough money at the time to fix it
dalmarshall Posted June 10, 2013 Author Report Posted June 10, 2013 Yeah he's on here mate I remember my cousin having a silver Harrier back in the 80's, he took me for a spin once or twice and I thought it was the absolute business. I've always fancied one! Bet I don't find one now though!!
BaileyMex Posted June 10, 2013 Report Posted June 10, 2013 Good its staying in the OSF family I'm sure we will keep our eyes out
Daz271 Posted June 11, 2013 Report Posted June 11, 2013 Morning guys, well I'm the lucky new owner of the GT, I collected the car yesterday - 460 mile round trip after working all of Sunday night and now back at work tonight without any sleep, looking and feeling like a zombie right now. Anyway, thanks Darren I'm really happy with the car, it looks nice in the pics but its even better in the flesh. The car is refusing to start at the moment, my mate says the spark is pretty weak and thinks there is a balast resistor missing from one of the wires so where gonna look further into that this week, with any look that might get her running again, I'm also gonna drain and flush the cooling system just to double check the oil mix problem before I commit to pulling the engine out and stripping it again. I'll keep the updates flowing to let you know what I find and how I get on with it. Can't wait to have a drive in it and go make good use of that LSD on some roundabouts.
mk2 mike Posted June 11, 2013 Report Posted June 11, 2013 Well done. It's a cracking car. I was thinking of having it too but was too slow! My plan was to ditch the lotus engine altogether. Good luck with the car, look forward to seeing updates
Daz271 Posted June 11, 2013 Report Posted June 11, 2013 Sorry Mike, I must of just beaten you to it. Ditching the lotus lump was my 1st thought too, I think a 2.0 xe or maybe a zetec would suit the car but on the other hand Darren has put so much time money and effort into this engine I feel I should maybe give it a fair chance? I guess it depends how much its gonna cost to put it right though? Do I throw money at the lotus engine and hope it will be reliable-ish once done or just save time and fit something like an xe? Changing to a different engine would mean rebuilding the bulkhead, grinding of the chassis mounts etc and would I be able to convert this bias box if i changed to a cable clutch? I think I would have to change it? Hmmm what to do??
