Midland rs Posted June 21, 2013 Report Posted June 21, 2013 Just thought I would upload a couple of pictures of my Escort on its way to get sorted......
Midland rs Posted June 21, 2013 Author Report Posted June 21, 2013 Had a nightmare, left my car covered up in the rain, outside, took the cover off and the paint has reacted against the cover. It looks like someone has poured brake fluid over it. Nightmare!
Admin Vista Posted June 21, 2013 Admin Report Posted June 21, 2013 Oh dear. I'm not following though, is that why it's going away to be sorted or did that happen while it was being transported? Either way, how long was it under the cover for to do tbat?
Midland rs Posted June 21, 2013 Author Report Posted June 21, 2013 Believe it or not, it was under the cover for about 8 hours. Its been nothing but problems since I've had it. Unfortunately for me, I'm the 13th owner so think its a bit of a bad omen. Its going away to have the underneath under sealed and tidied up a bit and hopefully they can sort the bodywork out at the same time....
Admin Vista Posted June 21, 2013 Admin Report Posted June 21, 2013 What the hell was impregnated into the cover for it to react like that with the paint??
Midland rs Posted June 21, 2013 Author Report Posted June 21, 2013 not sure think it got damp under the cover then got worm when the sun came out
johnnyspencer Posted June 21, 2013 Report Posted June 21, 2013 was it a recent paint job? my new cover has a warning saying not to use on new paint within 3 months, bit gutted with that as i got it specially to cover my escort thats being painted right now!
Midland rs Posted June 22, 2013 Author Report Posted June 22, 2013 They are going to try a buff it if that don't work they will flat it with wet and dry lets hope it sorts it
gwxe Posted June 26, 2013 Report Posted June 26, 2013 Good luck with that, looks like a really nice RS.
morcheen Posted June 26, 2013 Report Posted June 26, 2013 i had a similar reaction on my mk3 rst a few years ago.had a full paint job ,covered it a few months later and then the paint sweated and left a load of micro blisters ( not touched the car in about 5 years !
johnnyspencer Posted June 26, 2013 Report Posted June 26, 2013 got to be something in the paint, maybe cheap thinner??
XjamesX Posted June 26, 2013 Report Posted June 26, 2013 worst nightmare. Hope it all turns out OK for you and isn't too bad in the end
mk2 mike Posted June 26, 2013 Report Posted June 26, 2013 My paint has small blisters too in places. I've been told it was water in the primer.
johnnyspencer Posted June 26, 2013 Report Posted June 26, 2013 My paint has small blisters too in places. I've been told it was water in the primer. cant see that, primer has to be wet flatted with water prior to top coat anyway, more like water droplets in the top coat from the compresser as it was sprayed
mk2 mike Posted June 26, 2013 Report Posted June 26, 2013 Possibly I'm not a paint sprayer that's what I was told by someone.
Midland rs Posted June 27, 2013 Author Report Posted June 27, 2013 Sorry not bin on been away a few days with the missis and my new son doing the daddy thing got a list as long as my arm to do on the car so I don't know how long it will take to sort them all out all I can do is sort them out 1at a time
irishtorag Posted December 15, 2013 Report Posted December 15, 2013 I don't wet flat any primer or paint its all dry sanding for me some times micro blisters are cause by water but most times its caused but solvent popping ie thinners or using cheap gun wash thinner in paint or primer considering most paints used is water based and most lacquer voc compliant which means thinner free then maybe wet sanding has cause micro blisters
Mgentry90 Posted December 22, 2013 Report Posted December 22, 2013 I've seen a post somewhere on this paint issue, something like damp seeping into the top layer of paint, t cut might help. I have the same in places
irishtorag Posted December 22, 2013 Report Posted December 22, 2013 micro blistering usualy comes below the paint mostly from water or solvent but another issue is not draining compressor and having the proper water oil two or three stage filter for body shops. tis all money but a clean air supply is a must
