I went to see Rush this afternoon. I had purposefully avoided the trailer and much of the PR leading up to its release so was largely in the dark (obviously I knew it was about the 1976 F1 championship battle between Hunt & Lauda) as to the depth of its content.

Well, what can I say? What a film, great cinematography and racing action all cleverly intertwined with the personal stories of Hunt and Lauda, how they got where they were and what they were like as people and as racers. Great film, I highly recommend it for any Petrol head, F1 fan or otherwise.

I do remember the 76 season vaguely as it was the year my F1 interest began. My Christmas present that year was a radio controlled 6 wheeler Tyrell P34 introduced in 1976

Ive seen it and thoroughly enjoyed it, I remember the wanting to be James Hunt, i was 10 in 76. I think thats where my interest in cars began as my dad had no interest infact he didnt learn to drive till 77! I stiil have the corgi version of Emerson fittipaldis lotus racing car. And i had a Scalextric that Christmas.

Funny that, my Old man had (and still hasn't) any interest in cars or motorsport (I was 6 in 76) my younger brothers followed him into an interest (obsession?) with football but I've always been into motor racing, and F1 above any other kinds

I watched some channel on sunday night about James hunt a Lauda very interesting. Lauda aka the rat lol what hunt called him went to the Nurburgring and called all the drivers to a meeting to stop the race going ahead as it was a dangerous  track and out voted by one driver so the race went ahead and he was right he nearly died .... What good times they looked like they had back in the day tho...

1976, long hot summer with droughts, my daughter was 3, and a certain brand new Mk3 Cortina was being shown off on my drive by Father in law! not a lot of motor sport on the telly but used to keep up with newspaper reports, can remember the jousting between Hunt and Louder well!

Back in those days mate there was regularly 2 or 3 drivers being killed every year! Next year will mark 20 years without an F1 driver fatality. The numbers below make for sobering reading

That's a fact! can remember as a kid in the 50's it was a regular thing happening, one of my heroes Sterling Moss  got a bit too close, Mike Hawthorn was killed, car crash not racing though, excellent that in present time the cars have a high speed crash and drivers usually walk away from it, not so 'gung ho' as it was.....
