AdsCapri Posted October 23, 2013 Report Posted October 23, 2013 I'm really wanting one now, and obviously there aren't loads for sale but I have no idea of there actual value or even how to value them. Can anyone gauge the price range as in rough nail right up to concourse? I'm assuming I won't pick one up for under 10k if it's genuine? Also how do I confirm it is genuine? Thanks
SmokeEm Posted October 23, 2013 Report Posted October 23, 2013 God, where to start. My mate Darren has a genuine one and its far from mint but not a shed either. That owes him 5k so they ARE out there but IMHO start thinking 8-10k plus for a good one up to 20k for a minter
Admin Vista Posted October 23, 2013 Admin Report Posted October 23, 2013 The Sporting Escort Owner's club has an online price guide which isn't too far out. though I think they might need a bit of updating as the're dated 2011 and I can't see a Twin cam going for that price even in condition 2 now http://www.seoc.co.uk/priceguide.htm
dalmarshall Posted October 23, 2013 Report Posted October 23, 2013 I'm kind of sniffing round one at the moment, nice at first glance recently sprayed etc but some visible patchwork in the boot floor and chassis rail, tired interior, replica alloys. That's just what I've seen from a few pics and that's up for £14k. I would highly recommend taking someone who really knows their mexico's with you, unless you are buying such a well known car hat you can be certain it's genuine. There are so many fake ones out there asking genuine mex money, be very careful, don't fall in love with shiny wheels and paint and jump in with both feet before you're certain
Savvi Posted October 23, 2013 Report Posted October 23, 2013 You really need to talk and join the AVO club, they know most of the cars that are still left and also know of some for sale. Another guy worth speaking to is Trev @ stage one motorsport in Cornwall ............... I know he bought one a while ago that may be for sale at some point, he does loads for the Avo club and knows the cars inside out .............................. quite funny walking around a show with him, as he spots original and not original within minutes :D
AdsCapri Posted October 24, 2013 Author Report Posted October 24, 2013 Thank you for all the help chaps

Mickey Stewart Posted October 31, 2013 Report Posted October 31, 2013 If you speak to the AVO club a guy called Smudger may be able to help you.
frankthefencer Posted October 31, 2013 Report Posted October 31, 2013 Mmmm a genuine mk1 mexico. ......
Savvi Posted November 1, 2013 Report Posted November 1, 2013 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-Escort-MK1-GT-SOLD-DEPOSIT-TAKEN-/131024495256?clk_rvr_id=533308038432&nma=true&si=5Ea2G%2FuTbNqISgTHO5htiU0JLNQ%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 My mate just sold this one for £4500 which was cheap I think but It needed a lot of work I think, It used to be Silver Mink too, I was offered it first but couldn't afford to get it restored sadly. I don't think that was a mexico at that reg. It may have been a twin cam though !!!
thrashermax Posted November 3, 2013 Report Posted November 3, 2013 Good one £12-15k, concourse £16-£20k. Although bargains do crop up, recent orange one sold off rallyesportescorts for £10k to a dealer who then put it on ebay for £17k... Bloody dealers... I think he let it go for far less than that in the end. Prices seem to keep climbing.

I think that's a GT, worth half a Mexico... But definitely not half the car!
dockertrigger Posted November 3, 2013 Report Posted November 3, 2013 ^ sorry it was a GT! I misread the OP, it came with a pair of genuine new Mexico wings though. 1
Mickey Stewart Posted November 3, 2013 Report Posted November 3, 2013 This will give you some idea of what to pay for Minter http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/A-Genuine-AVO-Mk1-Ford-Escort-RS-Mexico-in-Impeccable-Award-Winning-Condition-/281191219456?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item41784d8100 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/An-Impeccable-Mk1-Ford-Escort-AVO-RS-Mexico-Recreation-with-21st-Century-Power-/281189988644?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item41783ab924

In fact both of those prices are much higher than what they normally fetch.
mk2 mike Posted November 4, 2013 Report Posted November 4, 2013 Both were sold But not necessarily at those prices! I too find it hard to believe anyone would pay that much for a replica, albeit a minter like that. Although some people have more money than sense.
SmokeEm Posted November 4, 2013 Report Posted November 4, 2013 Tis true. Those with plenty of dough would rather buy a fake for 20k which needs nothing in order to relive their youth than spend 10k on a real one that needs 10k spent to make it mint. If you are never gonna sell then fine but there are only so many mugs out there for the fakes 1
mk2 mike Posted November 4, 2013 Report Posted November 4, 2013 It actually sold for 19k Although some people have more money than sense
thrashermax Posted November 5, 2013 Report Posted November 5, 2013 It actually sold for 19k Although some people have more money than sense Wonder how long the new owner will keep it for and how many miles will they drive in it... I bet it will sit in a garage and taken out very, very occasionally... more money than sense means mk1 prices will continue upwards. Not sure this is a good thing as we'll see less being driven. It seems daft to spend £19k on a replica... having said that add up your bills over the years and how much has your non-RS car cost you!
