johnny_h Posted February 10, 2007 Report Posted February 10, 2007 As above, I have a fast road tuned 1600 crossflow with lumenition ignition and rev limiter modules and I have just found a Lucas Super Energy Sports coil that is gold in colour. Is this a good coil to use and what do you use?
105Speed Posted February 10, 2007 Report Posted February 10, 2007 If thats a DL105 then you can only use them in a set up that has no ballast resistor like an Anglia or a mini. I suspect the MkI has a ballast resistor somewhere in the ignition circuit.

I suspect the MkI has a ballast resistor somewhere in the ignition circuit. Some do, some don't... It's a question of tracing the loom back Johnny boy
johnny_h Posted February 10, 2007 Author Report Posted February 10, 2007 I have the loom out as I have retaped it. What pray tell does a ballast resistor lookie like?
johnny_h Posted February 10, 2007 Author Report Posted February 10, 2007 ps. I forgot to mention that it came originally from my first mk1 escort that was a 1300 crossflow. Cheers for the help guys.
escort21 Posted February 10, 2007 Report Posted February 10, 2007 The ballast resistor will be part of the wire...so it will look like a wire , best thing to do is run another seperate wire
Tom Posted February 10, 2007 Report Posted February 10, 2007 turn the ignition on and check what voltage your getting at the coil. if its 12v its all good. if its 9v trace the wire back to the ignition cut it off and repace it. JD
teamtom Posted February 10, 2007 Report Posted February 10, 2007 i would say it "should" have a ballast resistor. the ballast wires i know are inside the loom so you would have to cut it open. Just run a wire along the loom and forget about the current one.
RUSTYPUP Posted February 11, 2007 Report Posted February 11, 2007 Coil??? Very old hat that mate. Most people use condoms when'on tour' or pills when they're with their trusty steed.
Mk 1 Mark Posted February 11, 2007 Report Posted February 11, 2007 I know there was a merc found in France that had a coil from a 68 Princess
johnny_h Posted February 11, 2007 Author Report Posted February 11, 2007 I know there was a merc found in France that had a coil from a 68 Princess Excelent, thanks for your help mate.
Long Tall Sally Posted February 14, 2007 Report Posted February 14, 2007 what ever the doctor recomends................ pmsl hahahaha

I suspect the MkI has a ballast resistor somewhere in the ignition circuit. Bringing this thread full circle back to ignition systems (rude girls ) I use a Gold Lucas coil and I'm pretty sure it's a DL105. works well and never given me any trouble, unfortunately I can't help on your ballast resistor question.
Long Tall Sally Posted February 14, 2007 Report Posted February 14, 2007 I agree, no sexual connections to coils at all...........
