FlyingYeti Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 Got a call from the guys who built my engine and was informed that the ignition I need for my pinto is one called 123 ignition although im challenged when it comes to things like this, ive had a look around but had no luck, has anyone used this or know where I can get one?? I know this is probably a really stupid question but that's what forums are for! "He who asks a question is a fool for 5 minutes, He who does not ask the question is a fool forever"
SmokeEm Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 Not heard of that but I would be fitting a Bestek or H & H system if it were my money. I had Bestek on my Capri and it was totally fit n forget. 1
Col-ashtonmobile Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 Joe Ashton will sort you one out , they are a budget system so let him know your engine spec , www.ashtonmobile.co.uk or 01342843601 or pm him on here 3
SmokeEm Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 I will be looking for a budget system soon too. I assumed only accuspark were affordable but basic so will also check that out too Colin
Col-ashtonmobile Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 Had a few problems with accuspark recently to be honest Dave ( replaced one today with a Bestek) so maybe worth shopping around .. 2
SmokeEm Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 Ok Colin, will do. Its only for my bog stock 2l so beaten a bit overkill. Thanks mate
FlyingYeti Posted January 28, 2014 Author Report Posted January 28, 2014 Thanks for all the help, Im hoping for around 200bhp, well that's what they said it should make, would I still want a budget one or will they recommend one? just out of curiosity is the ignition 123 an actual make or is it accuspark? sorry may be another stupid question!
mk1magic Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 ive had a bestek on mine for past three years with no issues
katana Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 Can't advise on a brand but a budget system maybe not the best choice for a reasonably powerful motor - a weak system or one that is not well supported may be problematic down the road? 1
RossMK2 Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 bestek all the way for me slightly more expensive but it is spot on...
SmokeEm Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 200bhp! Christ! Who built that and what is the spec?
mk2 mike Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 Had a few problems with accuspark recently to be honest Dave ( replaced one today with a Bestek) so maybe worth shopping around .. That'll be mine then! I was going to say the same thing but col bear me to it. I had an accuspark complete dizzy as my original was worn. At £70/£80 or whatever it was I thought I couldn't go wrong. HOWEVER, the car failed to start out of the blue about a year afterwards and just wouldn't start. Got a bestek kit now, nearly 3 times the price but worth every penny for the reliability. Give the Ashtons a call mate they'll sort you right out. (Maybe even the rest of your car if you want to get it done). 1
mk2 mike Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 200bhp! Christ! Who built that and what is the spec? Pinto turbo isn't it?
FlyingYeti Posted January 28, 2014 Author Report Posted January 28, 2014 Not anymore, its a 2.1 on 45's but il need to speak to Shepards to get a full spec list, I just told the guy who builds Shepards engines I want a pinto with around 200bhp and they seem to think it should make it but until the dyno happens! Tbh anywhere around 180-190 il be happy!
FlyingYeti Posted January 28, 2014 Author Report Posted January 28, 2014 Also spoke to Shepards tonight and there really getting a move on, its almost like subconsciously my rant helped!
silverstreak Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 been told the ones fitted to sierras r good e ignition I mean
FlyingYeti Posted January 29, 2014 Author Report Posted January 29, 2014 I ended up buying one from Burton, Got a Bosch one, I hope its good as its set me back £230! Also got my new Exhaust system from Retro ford, Ordered Monday got here today, everytime hes so quick!!
Admin Vista Posted January 29, 2014 Admin Report Posted January 29, 2014 200bhp from a 2.1 pinto on 45's is a pretty big ask, I look forward to learning the results. 2
FlyingYeti Posted January 29, 2014 Author Report Posted January 29, 2014 Im only going on what they say, im doubtful of 200 but my last escort was a bog standard mk2 1.3gl and that never ran right, anything over 160bhp with my lsd will be a HUUUGGGEEE improvement on that! Hahaha
RossMK2 Posted January 29, 2014 Report Posted January 29, 2014 I'm sure whatever it makes it will make you smile mate, firgures are figures, ok so they are fact relating to how quick your car will be but at the end of the day if you haven't had a escort with more than that power, it will definatley make grin ear to ear and thats more important than figures in my opinion. Good figures are a bonus though 1
