Helping out a classic car bodywork or engine shop

I'd love to help out for free at either a bodywork or mechanical place at the weekend to learn some skills, watch what they do as well as make tea etc.

 

Do you think it would be worth approaching some places or is it a non starter, I suppose it could be counter productive if I'm just going to get under their feet.

It can't hurt to ask, not sure how it would affect their insurance though.

Go for it! It never hurts to ask and if you get a bit of experience in return fo making the tea, that's got to be a good thing

Seconded for the 'go for it' .

It sort of helps if you can show an aptitude for the work. I started helping out at a local bike shop - odds and sods, changing oil, extra pair of hands when needed - wasn't paid, didn't expect it but if I needed parts, a discount was always arranged so it all helps. In my real world job, I would rather have a confident skilled 'doer' rather than someone with 000's of paper qualifications!

Go for it mate,its always good to have someone with enthusiasm (if no knowledge) helping you than some twat that has to be told to breath in an out.
