Muzzman Posted February 25, 2014 Report Posted February 25, 2014 I took the gearstick out today and replaced it with one that was all metal rather than the plastic ball. I put it back together and the car changes gear. Had a panic moment when I couldn't get the cover to go back on. I know its the easiest job ever but baby steps and all that. I would have always taken the car to a local garage even to have that done. Off to see Joe today at Ashton's for an impartial opinion on the state of the car.....this should be interesting. I can feel more of this spannering on the horizons 1
mk2 mike Posted February 25, 2014 Report Posted February 25, 2014 Good news! Glad it all works. Hope the verdict is good! 1
Admin Vista Posted February 25, 2014 Admin Report Posted February 25, 2014 Spannering is good. Start with the little jobs, as you have, and you'll soon build confidence
Joe-ashtonmobile Posted February 25, 2014 Report Posted February 25, 2014 Fear not , there are never horror stories here , all is repairable.
Escort Mk1 4 Door Posted February 25, 2014 Report Posted February 25, 2014 joe u wouldn't sat that if u saw my 1700 xflow lol
Muzzman Posted February 25, 2014 Author Report Posted February 25, 2014 Verdict is positive, car is in reasonably good nick, looks to be a genuine mexico and we've made some plans. First of all get it to brake well, drop it a couple of inches and MoT it, secondly sell my track car and use funds for engine rebuild and engine bay refresh. Well worth making the trip this morning! 2
mexicansteve Posted February 26, 2014 Report Posted February 26, 2014 Hmm, starting with the small jobs...well after only tinkering before I've been allowed a corner in my local garage ( damn nice of them ) and took the head off to get valve seats popped in. I'm now rebuilding, with any luck she'll fire up on Friday. This is a lark isn't it?
Muzzman Posted February 26, 2014 Author Report Posted February 26, 2014 That all sounds Mexican to me!
