At the moment my 2100 Pinto has a 38DGMS carb on a standard Ford inlet manifold.

I've just bought a "Lynx" alloy manifold which takes a single DCOE and is built so that each choke fuels 2 pistons. I'm thinking this is a good "halfway" carb upgrade, without going as far as twin DCOEs.

BUT, do I go with a 40DCOE or a 45DCOE? As I'll only have one, a 45 seems like a good choice. But, long term I'd probably want twin 40DCOEs on the engine. Will a single 40 give me a noticeable power increase from a 38DGMS?

personally from reading other forums you are better with 45's as 40's are really at there limit on a 2.1 pinto

so for future up grades you will eventually have to go to 45's.

Maybe a case of buy bigger and buy once to save £'s in the longer term

Kenny

ps: just my opinion

Agree with the above but with the addition of that if you're planning to eventually move up to a pair of carbs and funds allow it, then buy the pair now and just fit one of them, fit the other when you eventually move ahead with the twin carb upgrade. This guarantees you'll have a matched pair on the car and it'll also probably be cheaper in the long run to buy a pair than it would be to buy them individually.

I was running a single 45/ lynx combo on my 1660 X-flow, according to the engine builder there wasnt a great deal more to be had by putting twin 40s on it, depends on you state of tune though. If you need twin 45s down the road at least you got one.
