pnwrs2000 Posted March 31, 2014 Report Posted March 31, 2014 I want to sort out the rear suspension on my mk2 escort but need some advice / opinions first. I don't want to go daft and put a group 4 fully floating turreted blah blah blah - im thinking single leaf spring, pair of bilstein dampers, 2" lowering blocks, tramp bars and possibly a panhard rod. Few questions though 1, what's the difference between single leaf springs and single leaf slipper springs ? 2, depending on the answer to the first question, what bushes do I need ? 3, do I have to / should I change the spring hangers ? 4, where / who would you get this lot from Cheers everyone
irishtorag Posted March 31, 2014 Report Posted March 31, 2014 for slipper spring u need different hangers but a pair of decambered single leaf springs does away with lowering blocks and specify your strength bilstens or spaxs just grand as you don't need to hard (for the road ???) road car tramp bars are grand as its over kill on std 13 or 16 to have panrod imo
Admin Vista Posted April 1, 2014 Admin Report Posted April 1, 2014 Tramp bars and pan hard rods do different jobs and I would fit both personally.
irishtorag Posted April 1, 2014 Report Posted April 1, 2014 if I was fitting a 2.1 or yb or xe I would totally agree Scott but for a 1600 with 40's its really pointless as the axel wont travel much with low power so moneys and time would be better spent else where

What strength single leafs do I need then for a fast road car ? Looking through R.A.C.E, PLR, Burton etc catalogues etc 146lb IIRC seems to be what they sell. These the right ones ? I was thinking a panhard rod only because my mate has this set up on his 1600 mk2 rally car and it felt good when we were out in that. Then again, that was with sticky slicks too so not exactly the same as a road car eh !
irishtorag Posted April 1, 2014 Report Posted April 1, 2014 That's what im saying Gauge what you plan to do with car. Fast road/road forget the track setup because it will become a chore to drive Track day well you need pan rod Rally yes you need full spec. Its not strengthened single leaf spring its decambered single leaf spring that lower a car and available in different poundage Invest your cash in road setup for comfort and road holding and as said in previous thread maybe a good diff.
livewire7116 Posted April 1, 2014 Report Posted April 1, 2014 238bhp XE with minus 1.5 lowering blocks, anti tramps and a grp4 panhard rod, I have no problems! 146lb single leafs and bilstein shocks
