5tox Posted April 5, 2014 Report Posted April 5, 2014 As per title, do they completely eliminate the need to use an anti-roll bar and what are the benefits Cheers, Steve
Andrade Posted April 5, 2014 Report Posted April 5, 2014 They both share the task of keeping the wheel in place at a defined amount of castor. however the anti roll bar, as the name suggests, counters roll while cornering. removing the anti roll bar loses the link between the front wheels, so to compensate one would typically run harder springs on the front. this would be very annoying for a road car that will be used frequently.
5tox Posted April 5, 2014 Author Report Posted April 5, 2014 Thank you for the information mate, i dont think i would benefit from them in that case as mine will be a road car
Andrade Posted April 5, 2014 Report Posted April 5, 2014 im running compression struts with 200lb springs on the front of my anglia, in retrospect I should have fitted and antirollbar. It's a fast car and corners well under power if the road is fine, but you won't get from point a to point b any quicker if you have to slow down to a stop to go over every imperfection in the road.

Andrade Posted April 5, 2014 Report Posted April 5, 2014 lol true, the main roads interconnecting most towns are fine though
PaulMags Posted April 5, 2014 Report Posted April 5, 2014 yeah only a few tho.they are getting better tho.I love it when i come over there.i rag the guts out of every car i hire and has a good laugh with most of the boy racers because they can only drive in a straight line they dont like bends ect.lol 1
PaulMags Posted April 5, 2014 Report Posted April 5, 2014 I do run compression struts on mine plus its five linkend on the rear end and its road legal dont really have a problem with anything except you no when the roads are'nt smooth because everything rattles like shite.but you do benefit from hard braking from thr struts.
5tox Posted April 5, 2014 Author Report Posted April 5, 2014 i had better leave them well alone, the roads round this area (the fens) are shocking
PaulMags Posted April 5, 2014 Report Posted April 5, 2014 I would to be honest because its so uncomfortable.
Andrade Posted April 5, 2014 Report Posted April 5, 2014 If you want to make the suspensions a bit more sporty go for a set of poly bushes and perhaps lowering springs (smallest poundage if running a x/flow). If you haven't done that already that is. They suit a road car nicely and it's the setup I opted for in my escort estate and the difference in comfort between the two cars is massive.
katana Posted April 6, 2014 Report Posted April 6, 2014 Nothing to stop use of an ARB with compression struts! It would be a modified one mind - re-profiled to remove direct connection, then use links to connect to lower arm. This way the struts are doing the geometry location and the ARB is only controlling roll.
rallyesport04 Posted April 6, 2014 Report Posted April 6, 2014 compression struts are for forest set ups tention struts are what you want for tarmac althou theres nothing wrong with a twincam anti roll bar
livewire7116 Posted April 6, 2014 Report Posted April 6, 2014 I run compression struts on my tarmac rally car and it works fine, no problems with body roll or diving under heavy braking, I would upload a couple pics of it in action but for some reason the new site doesn't seem to like photobucket links
