Admin Mk2Jo Posted April 7, 2014 Admin Report Posted April 7, 2014 burton sell new ones I did not know that!
PaulMags Posted April 7, 2014 Report Posted April 7, 2014 My mate bought a second hand one for more than that then had it shipped over to malta.
gwtaylor22 Posted April 8, 2014 Report Posted April 8, 2014 I recon burton a steep on their price at the moment but in a few years I bet that's the only place you'll be able to get gem from and that price won't seem too bad then. Don't actually know anybody who's had one from burton yet as to fit and quality of them
bigbadsquare Posted April 8, 2014 Report Posted April 8, 2014 The Burton ones are poorly fitted , try to find a good second hand one .
mikehunt Posted April 8, 2014 Report Posted April 8, 2014 had 3 from burton never had an issue ,maybe the fitter not the product
irishtorag Posted April 8, 2014 Report Posted April 8, 2014 imo if you want new buy burton or look on ebay for nos and 600 wouldn't buy you one a good second had one is from 100 to 300 ( try looking on other forums also including irishescortclub.com) as they come up regularly for sale. I agree with Dave a lot of times its fitters fault. There is also proper measurements for fitting spoiler on iec forum posted by one of the members in paddys tec section kenny 1
livewire7116 Posted April 8, 2014 Report Posted April 8, 2014 last rubber one I saw on ebay went for £146, made me think about selling mine and getting a decent glass one as its only on my rally car
Moderator Rally Pack 2000 Posted April 8, 2014 Moderator Report Posted April 8, 2014 I recon burton a steep on their price at the moment but in a few years I bet that's the only place you'll be able to get gem from and that price won't seem too bad then. Don't actually know anybody who's had one from burton yet as to fit and quality of them The Burton ones are actually made here in Australia less than a km from my home and have watched them being made. The guy that makes them (a very nice chap and avid RS2000 fan) also makes a whole range of rubber products that Burtons also sell. The spoilers are a very accurate reproduction even down to the Ford Part number on the underside. I still have a brand new original ford one and they are near identical. The thing with fitting is that when shipped they are sometimes leaning the wrong way and bend the lips slightly and simply need to settle in on the car. But thats settling in in warm weather NOT during winter when they arent as flexible. After a few warm days they have moulded themselves nicely. They are more UV resistant than the originals as well so I have been told.
Midland rs Posted April 8, 2014 Author Report Posted April 8, 2014 Thank you for your help Took the windscreen out to day got more welding to do
zetecmk2 Posted April 9, 2014 Report Posted April 9, 2014 i have one leaning in the corner of my front room...no use to me as to heavy for the car.....good condition too. feel free to pm. i'm in sussex!
Midland rs Posted April 9, 2014 Author Report Posted April 9, 2014 Hello mate not very good at this think I sent you a pm
Chesney Posted April 11, 2014 Report Posted April 11, 2014 The oz ones are utter crap. I have had mk2 escorts for over 12 years and fitted spoilers on and off but these just don't fit correctly. I tried contacting the bloke in oz who I brought it off and he didn't even bother replying. Had it on the boot for months even weighed it down with books etc but still it was crap. They look really good off the car but just do not fit. I know of other people who have had them and not been happy! I ended up buying a mint condition used spoiler for a lot more money and that fits perfect on my rs2000. Avoid at all costs lads is my advice.

Hmmm I still have a brand new original Ford one and compered it and they are identical so not sure how one can fit and not the other but if you private message me your details I will give them to the guy personally and make sure he replies to you. He is the most reasonable person to speak too Im certain he would try solve any issues for you.

I agree they look brilliant but just don't sit right on the bootlid or the rear quarters. I lost out on about £150 by buying it and regret ever getting involved with this guy. The gearnobs have split also that he sells. Not just me but others have suffered with this.

The gearnobs have split also that he sells. Not just me but others have suffered with this. If the boot lid is not adjusted to sit flush with he rear quarters neither can the spoiler. The older spoilers have sagged a bit more that does allow them to compensate having moulded themselves into place over the decades and when fitting the new one I bought it sat up at the ends like you described but replacing the boot rubber that had gone hard and the boot latch adjusted lower that solved the problem for me. The gear knobs did have issues from being screwed down too far. There were 2 different types of the knob made by ford one with a plastic thread and the other with a metal thread. the first of the knobs were made as replicas of the plastic thread version but since they split for some people screwing them down too tight he changed the design to the metal thread version, Im pretty sure they are available for free replacement to though where it split. These things are all hand made by one person, items that no one in decades has ever made replacements so there are always going to be issues with the first batches but finally having a source for the rubber spoilers in particular is a bit of a blessing really. Its a shame yours wasnt as good as it could have been.
Chesney Posted April 16, 2014 Report Posted April 16, 2014 The most disappointing thing was he wasn't interested when we complained. I'm not the only person who he ignored when complaints were made. The knob split in the sun at a show last year, not from being too tight. Others have suffered with the knob splitting as well. The boot lid is fine on my car. The spoiler simply didn't fit right on my mexico either.

Its rare that I get to return the favour to members from Oldskoolford who usually help me out with problems with my purchases as most of these parts are situated in the UK. For once the situation is reversed so glad to help if I can.
