Hello everyone, I'm trying to get my hands on a manual choke conversion for a twin choke Weber, any ideas?

I've tried the usual fleabay route, missed out on one and the other is pricey, I'm guessing they just cost a lot now...

In the few decades my Mk2 has been in my family I have tried every conceivable manual choke offering to which none of them I was happy with. The main problem if you are using it on a Pinto engine is that they dont take into account of the reverse position that it normally takes to cable activate the choke mechanism. I remember one looped around the front of the engine and than back to the carburettor and it came loose and the cam pulley gnawed at it. When I looked into it I found one that was made in Italy and was marketed under different packages even Weber. I suspect it started out as a Weber product and then when Weber stopped it was boxed under different makes but its unmistakable. It uses a unique miniature rack and pinion mechanism that facilitates cable entry from the rear of the carby near the firewall on Pinto Engines. The kit even comes with a heater hose bypass joint. It makes use of the Auto chokes mountings and you tension it in the same way. I tried it briefly and although it opened the butterflies it didnt prime the choke as well. This wasnt a fault of the device but as it turned out the carburettor itself had gotten worn and was the cause. I usually run the rebuild kits through the carburettors myself but this time I thought get a specialist to do it and since I was fixing the choke anyway I though I may as well just get the auto choke part replaced with it. So after my endeavour Im back where I started and it works ok. In the process I learnt more how the Auto Choke mechanism works so I am confident I can repair it in the future.

I have attached some photos of the manual choke kit. They seem to be quite scarce though and do fetch a premium, they set you back a minimum of 80 pound to up to 150 pounds I have seen them go for. Im pretty sure they havent been made for well over a decade so that doesnt help. But it really is the only one I can recommend.

Mucho information! Thanks, I'll look into that.

No worries, if you dont find one message me back and I may be convinced to part with my one as I probably going to stick with the auto choke from now on. Ive only been hanging onto it just in case.

Maybe I should attempt to make the auto choke better instead, it's just been a bit crap since getting on the road nearly 3 years back. Hmmm what to do...

Cup of tea and a think time. :gary:
