RS Four Spoke Fitting - Nuts/Studs/Hubs/Igiveup

Hi guys,

 

So I've been trying to fit my RS 4 spoke wheels onto my Anglia and have encountered some problems...

 

-The wheel nuts didn't seem to want to go on very smooth - Pop to Burton's, pick up new 12 x 1.5 mm with washers.

 

-Realise the studs aren't great, fit new studs which need it. The new ones are slightly longer, but only by a few mm (Photos below.)

 

-Fit wheels, now here's the problem, the nuts seem to go in fully and then get tighter... and then completely loose and so on and so on.

 

This is both front and back, front's running RS2000 MK1 Escort hubs and rear Anglia drums. The wheels are MK2 6J Harrier ones.

 

Any ideas? New studs, new nuts, still got the problem :/

 

One thing I did realise is that the new washers with the nuts are slightly thinner, tried swapping them but didn't seem to make any difference

Thanks for any help guys, replaced full front suspension and brakes, amongst other things, and the bloody wheels are causing the most problems D:

 

Really want to get it done asa!

M12 x 1.5? Assuming you have Anglia & mk1 Escort studs, the threads will be 7/16" UNF

That's what I was thinking! The right hand one of those two nuts appears stripped to buggery!

Well that's most likely what it is! Didn't even think to be honest, just thought the nuts I had with the wheels would go on!

 

Yep that's one of the old nuts, hence spending more (wasted) money on new nuts!

 

Maybe I'll just stick the whole two sets of nuts on eBay or something and try and get something back

I gave up and brought a full set of new studs then went to the wreckers and got a set of ford alloy tapered wheel nuts when i had my Capri lazer wheels. at one point i had metric on front when first fitted 2.8 struts and UNF on rear but had a issue with damaged thread as they were so similar if you muddled them up.

 

Only thing i would be careful of is longer studs and thinner washes is that the stud dont bottom out on the inside of the nut

I put a set of Capri alloys on my old Mk1, lovely job, went out on a 12 car navigational event one evening screaming it round the lanes, came to a halt as someone was coming the other way and it was a bit tight, as i turned the wheel to squeeze over..THE FRONT OFFSIDE WHEEL FELL OFF

Metric nuts with UNF thread dont work see.

Got the new nuts, bolted them on, car done! For now...
