Beauty and the Beast

Every Father's Day I go along to a little show run by a small local club called the Vintage and Classic Vehicle club. The bonus is it's at a local adventure park called Woodlands and the driver and one passenger get in to the park for free.

 

So this year I opted to take two cars and enjoy a free days entertainment for the four of us. I can tell you, my heart was in my mouth watching my wife driving the RS in the rear view mirror. Being used to a modern car with power steering and an auto box I thought she might struggle a bit with my 2.4 quick rack but she managed ok and quite enjoyed the attention she was getting on the road. Perhaps we'll have to take two cars along to local shows more often!

 

Oh and Beauty and the Beast? They're both beautiful beasts in my opinion!

 

 

 

There was lots of very nice cars from other marques there and clearly the owners take a lot of pride in their vehicles. The three stand out cars in the show for me were an early Mini Cooper, a mint series 2A Landrover with 22k on the clock and a Classic Capri convertible that the Owner had converted himself. I didn't see it with the roof up but the quality of his workmanship is superb and deservingly he won a cup for 2nd in show. Unfortunately the cars were fairly tightly packed in so I didn't get a chance for any better pics than this

 

 

There were some other very nice OSFs also worth a mention, though I confess I'm not sure how that Astra qualified as a classic.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Then at 3.30 they had prize giving and bugger me, I won the biggest cup I've ever seen for best car in show! I feel a bit guilty to be honest as I'm not even a member and was only there for the tickets to the park. Though I did take the time to look at all the cars there and vote for my favourites, as I had two cars there I got two votes .

I'd love to say it was the Escort but no. At events like this most people are drawn to the Montreal as they've never seen one before. Lots of people have never even heard of them.
