Alan49 Posted November 2, 2014 Report Posted November 2, 2014 Hi All I've had my mk1 RS2000 escort since 1977 but it last ran in 1990. Decided its time to put it back on the road but it needs a complete rebuild. I'm nearly back to the shell but I dont know where to get the replacement panels I need. Any thoughts please?
Admin Vista Posted November 2, 2014 Admin Report Posted November 2, 2014 Welcome to OSF. The situation with panels has improved a lot with the increase in value of the cars in recent years. Magnum panels have a good range for the mk1 now, as do expressed panels.
RIKB80 Posted November 26, 2014 Report Posted November 26, 2014 Just posted this elsewhere!! as above, I'd second that Ex-pressed panels do some decent stuff. I got a fair few panels for my mk2 from there and they were all very good quality. Front wings lined up very well, they were also the only place I found that actually rolled the steel to the same profile as the original on the door sills I bought from them, everywhere else I found just bend the steel at 90 degrees. They're not the cheapest place but the steel is a decent gauge and not flimsy tin foil like some places I've used in the past. http://www.steelpanels.co.uk/
CortinaLover1971 Posted November 26, 2014 Report Posted November 26, 2014 I'm new to all this too after deciding to restore my Dads Cortina this year. My advice would be ask questions, follow up leads and don't take no for an answer. If you follow every lead up something will turn up. People on here are great for advice and help, try other places such as Retards Club. I've spent the last six months or more researching and contacting people, businesses etc. I've only failed to source a pair of corello spots......I'll find them, if it kills me!! 1
