RIKB80 Posted November 20, 2014 Report Posted November 20, 2014 Hi, was put onto the forum by the father of the lad who just bought my Mk1 Fiesta. Been into fords since I was knee high to a gobstopper and have owned a fair few over the years from road going to basket cases that unfortunately never made it back onto the road under my ownership. Mostly they've been mk2 Escorts which are my 1st love but had a Sierra, few mk3 fiestas, and a beautiful original mk1 Fiesta Ghia which I unfortunately had to let go to afford the painting of my current car. I currently have a mk2 Escort 2 door GL which I have just sent off to the painters after bare shelling and having new metal let in where the old had caught tin rot. Hoping to have it on the road next year after 5 long years of restoration and parts sourcing. Plan is to build a stripped out no nonsense car with a warm pinto on bike carbs and 5 speed gear box. Not taken any photo's of the car as a whole for a while (just taken close ups of various parts as they've been completed so here's a few pics of the shell as I bought it, will post a few more when it's painted.

RIKB80 Posted November 21, 2014 Author Report Posted November 21, 2014 Cheers guys, going to see the painter in the morning all being well so will hopefully get a few pics then. And cheers Richard, you may regret saying that
mikehunt Posted November 21, 2014 Report Posted November 21, 2014 it aint a painter you need its a vicar looking at that old shell lol
RIKB80 Posted November 21, 2014 Author Report Posted November 21, 2014 It was just a bit of surface rust, minimal work to get it through an MOT according to the ebay ad!! (dint really get it off Ebay) It was surprisingly solid to be fair although you wouldn't have thought it looking at the photo's. A mate of mine who's a genius with a mig welder has sorted it, was far too much for my pigeon sh!t welding skills to fettle. Worst bit was the roof, some chump has picked it up with a forklift I think at some point (has spent numerous years in someone's yard) been a right pain to get somet like and the glass to fit in properly......still not perfect, if you look closely at the side shot, the top of door profile doesn't follow the door opening profile. 1
mikehunt Posted November 21, 2014 Report Posted November 21, 2014 sounds like youhave got it going in the right direction fair play pal 1
RIKB80 Posted November 24, 2014 Author Report Posted November 24, 2014 Well made it to the painters on Saturday morning. Looked round the car with him ans there's still a fair bit of finishing work (and cash ) to do before he can start throwing paint at it, but he came highly recommended by a trusted friend of my dad's who's in the business so left him to get on with it. Hopefully will be back my garage not too long after xmas. Up to now it's had. New front panel, 2 front wings, bit of work to both A posts, new part floor pan at drivers side, minor work to both rear arches (most of original arches were in v good nick), new 2nd hand bonnet, 2 new door skins, new 2nd hand boot, transmission tunnel hole moved back for type 9 and strengthening bar moved back (instead of cut through), new lower rear pannel, 2 new sills, holes for trim in sides filled, holes for trim on front of dash filled, new heater dome and inner repaired, rot removed and new metal let in at front of transmission tunnel, rear anti tramp bar brackets put on, strengthening plates on strut tops and leg inserts put in.................and probably a fair bit more I have forgotten about. Managed to get a few pics but they're not amazing quality. 2
CortinaLover1971 Posted November 24, 2014 Report Posted November 24, 2014 Looks a bit healthier now that! What engine you going to run, original or changing? I @ know a great bloke who can work wonders. Take a look at my MkV Cortina Restoration page at the minute. Nice to see its coming along, mines going for paint mid Jan.
RIKB80 Posted November 25, 2014 Author Report Posted November 25, 2014 Got a 205 block Pinto, just rebored 30 thou, new Cam, hardened seats, new pistons, bit of porting, nowt too lairy, with Bike Carbs. It's all painted up and ready to drop in when the car's back. A buddy of mine owns a place in Castleford called Speed Freaks, he's done 3 engines for me and done a top job every time. He's got a 2 litre Pinto 4 door Mk2 Escort he runs as his daily that he built himself, it's an absolute beast of a machine!!

I know the place well, not used him but did talk to him when ok first started my build. Your very local to me then I expect, I used to live in Hightown in Cas, just round the corner from your mates place. There is an auto jumble at Rufforth near York every month, apparently you can get everything there. I've used ASK in Kippax for most of my stuff, just as cheap than online and no waiting! Have quite a few mates with Ford s, we might arrange a meet in Summer somewhere local. I'll post on here if we do.
RIKB80 Posted November 25, 2014 Author Report Posted November 25, 2014 Moved to Leeds about 20 years ago. Grew up in glasshoughton til was in my mid 20's. My folks still live there. There's a fair few classic ford fans around Cas, not met as many over here. Clive at SF is a genius with an engine. His is running around 200 bhp. Used ASK for many years.... Although my wife was fed up of going about 4 month ago when it took them 4 attempts to get me an air filter for the mk1 fiesta I had at the time. Ay I'd be up for a local meet. Even if my cars not on the road I'm Insured on my old man's 4 door mk2 if I can't drag him along with me.
