GJUK Posted January 4, 2015 Report Posted January 4, 2015 Hi, I had (and still have) a wheel wobble which is very slight on my mk1 escort english axle. To date I have done the following: Swapped the wheels over from good to bad side - no change swapped out the half shafts for known good items - no change, drivers side still has the same wobble. What else really is there to check? rear drums being out of shape? Thanks, Jon
windsor Posted January 4, 2015 Report Posted January 4, 2015 Check in out play in halfshaft .i had this problem bearing had moved slightly on shaft .
skeeter Posted January 4, 2015 Report Posted January 4, 2015 Are the tyres round? Not as daft as it sounds - I had a problem on my race bike where the tyre moved on the rim a little as it wasn't quite round and meant that I then had a slight vibration under load. S
GJUK Posted January 4, 2015 Author Report Posted January 4, 2015 Check in out play in halfshaft .i had this problem bearing had moved slightly on shaft . I've had two different halfshafts in there now, and I think I'm right in saying the bearing is mounted to the halfshaft itself? So this can not be the issue. Thanks

S I only have the wobble on the offside of the car. I've swapped the wheels over from nrside to offside and that made no change
GJUK Posted January 4, 2015 Author Report Posted January 4, 2015 Check in out play in halfshaft .i had this problem bearing had moved slightly on shaft . I was thinking it can't be the casing, even if it is bent (which I have no reason to think it is) the wheel would rotate clean, without a 'wobble'. It has to be the halfshaft (which I've changes), wheel (which I've changed) or seating of the wheel?
windsor Posted January 4, 2015 Report Posted January 4, 2015 Fair comment, sounds a very strange one hope you sort it.
garyv6100e Posted January 5, 2015 Report Posted January 5, 2015 On my old 100E the drum back plate was slightly distorted causing the brake drum to sit slightly raised hence the wheel appeared to wobble. I straightened up the drum back plate and the "wobble" disappeared.
GJUK Posted January 5, 2015 Author Report Posted January 5, 2015 I'm thinking it could now be that. I'll try swapping them over. Thank you
iandq Posted January 7, 2015 Report Posted January 7, 2015 hi I am thinking brake drum here, remove the wheel and run the car in gear and watch the drum I am guessing you will see the wobble here and it's that that's stopping the wheel seating. you could also swap the drums and see if the problem moves with the drum. cheers, ian
GJUK Posted January 7, 2015 Author Report Posted January 7, 2015 Yeah, good idea, I will try this next. Thank you!
GJUK Posted January 8, 2015 Author Report Posted January 8, 2015 Having removed the drum I can clearly see that its bent :-/ Must have always been like that
Admin Vista Posted January 8, 2015 Admin Report Posted January 8, 2015 Having removed the drum I can clearly see that its bent :-/ Must have always been like that Must be a relief to have finally found the culprit though? 1
GJUK Posted January 8, 2015 Author Report Posted January 8, 2015 Yes mate, its the normal way. Buy loads of new bits and its the 50p solution that works. Anyone want and spare halfshfts lol?
