Cookymonster3 Posted April 15, 2015 Report Posted April 15, 2015 Hi there. Justin here from Peterborough. Thought it best to introduce myself having registered this morning. I own a MK3 Capri, 2.8i Turbo Technics in Cardinal Red. Was on the way to another club meeting on Monday of this week and tripped over your gathering in Guyhirn. Had to do a u-turn despite running late to have a nose and take some pics - some great cars in the club, especially the range of Escorts on show... My car has just had a gearbox rebuild and been modded to Cosworth-esque standard as the original box was starting to implode! Car now awaiting a turbo rebuild which is booked for the first week in May so my car is off the road presently. Hope to meet up with some of you in the near future and get to know you and the club. For the record I am an engineering bafoon and will be of no use to anyone in terms of technical guidance or tips! Sorry about that.... All the best.
Admin Vista Posted April 15, 2015 Admin Report Posted April 15, 2015 Welcome to OSF The type 9 was always quite heavily loaded in a standard 2.8i so must have been really pushed in a TT capri. Are you running a T5 box from a Cosworth now then?
khanlad Posted April 15, 2015 Report Posted April 15, 2015 Welcome, a few peterbough way, great looking capri
Cookymonster3 Posted April 15, 2015 Author Report Posted April 15, 2015 Thanks for the comments everyone. Still got the Type9 but it has been modded with larger bearings, apparently done away with the lay shaft etc. According to those that are in the know it has had a good job done and will be a lot stronger, but as I said earlier, I don't know the technicalities of it. Another guy with a TT Capri has had the same mod done, although changed the bell housing for an alloy one - mine is still the pig-iron item! Relied on a mate from another club to remove the box (he runs his own garage) but he sent it off to a specialist gearbox rebuilder he has been using for 20+ years... Back in with new clutch etc and seems smooth although not used since refitted due to the turbo work required. Updates to follow.
