bazoff72 Posted April 19, 2015 Report Posted April 19, 2015 A Cortina mk2 i have just purchased has a 2.0ltr pinto EFI with big valve head and i have a HPE 2.1 pinto running twin 45s. Question is which do i keep/install? hpe are busy at the moment and can not fit thier engine before classic ford show so i have been asking a few garages where i live if they can install the hpe engine for me, and they say that taking out the EFI and swapping it for a carbed engine would be taking a step backwards. can anyone here shed some light on the differences or gains between the two engines please. pros and cons thanks Barry
Admin Vista Posted April 19, 2015 Admin Report Posted April 19, 2015 They're talking out of their behinds if they're making that statement without knowing the specs of the two engines and what you want from them. 1
bazoff72 Posted April 19, 2015 Author Report Posted April 19, 2015 Thanks for the clarification Vista, ha ha can anyne recomend someone that might be able to do the work , im in the west midlands?
deltamal Posted April 19, 2015 Report Posted April 19, 2015 You would loose power (noise and looks!) going to standard EFI, the only EFI that would give gains would be throttle body's, but as you already have the carbs that would be the way to go 1
JP. Posted April 19, 2015 Report Posted April 19, 2015 Wasn't it Ashton that did motor swaps at your doorstep, Or was that ages ago.....
Admin Vista Posted April 19, 2015 Admin Report Posted April 19, 2015 Wasn't it Ashton that did motor swaps at your doorstep, Or was that ages ago..... The Ashtons do offer a mobile service but South London to the West Midlands is a fair old distance 1
SmokeEm Posted April 19, 2015 Report Posted April 19, 2015 Baz, just leave as is. Put the Harris engine in the Escort. It is where it belongs 1
bazoff72 Posted April 20, 2015 Author Report Posted April 20, 2015 I think you might be right SMOKEEM!!! but what could i do with the EFI to try and get some more power? ie tuning, servicing,????
Snapper Posted April 20, 2015 Report Posted April 20, 2015 The EFI system is restrictive in the sense that it can't deliver much more fuel past standard The only usable tuning upgrade for EFI is the Kent FR34 cam which has similar cam timing duration but much more lift You could squeeze a bit more compression by fitting the Rheinz 1.3mm Gasket or a Felpro 1mm if you can find one. After this you need to junk the EFI, you have the fuel system to fit bike throttle bodies or Jenvey's if you have lots of money but need new fuel and spark management. Carbs on an injection head are good as the injection head is better than a standard head but you'll still need spark management and a non EFI fuel pump. Looking at you bay a better exhaust manifold such as the Ashley would do wonders. Nothing's simple is it?
deltamal Posted April 20, 2015 Report Posted April 20, 2015 A 38 DGAS or DGMS twin choke carb as used on a 3'0 Essex engine is a good swap for a 2.0 Pinto! I have one on my 2.0 Crusader it made a big difference, it would need re-jetting though... 1
