PeteRS8084 Posted June 13, 2015 Report Posted June 13, 2015 So this morning up nice and early to take kermit for her mot. Nice steady drive down to Sunbury with all the usual thumbs ups and faces at windows. Straight onto the mot lane, result - pass no advisories! It's difficult enough with a newish motor, but I felt the pressure with one that's 36 yes old, your just never to sure what they can find. What I found was an mot tested with a love of old skool fords, and he showed me pics of his old mk2 granada ghia. Once done it was onto the other bay to get the tracking checked, and like I thought it was a good way out, but 20 mins and it was all sorted. The tester took kermit for a quick blast on the estate and came back beaming................doesn't she pull well he commented! I just smiled and had a warm fuzzy feeling inside. The joys of classic ford ownership. 1
DT36 Posted June 13, 2015 Report Posted June 13, 2015 Did you set your tracking to the original manufacturers spec? I replaced my track rod ends just before my MOT and just set them up by measuring and counting the threads. Am looking at getting it dialed in properly next week and was going for setting it to original spec, so just curious to see if some are doing it slightly different. Got to love it when you take your car in and it gets more attention than the modern cars. Bet he was grinning all night when he went home. I have used the same guy for my MOTs the last 2 years and he's great. Last year he offered me 11K for my car and this year he tried again at 12k. He said he's going to eventually wear me down, so I'm wondering if he'll go for 13k next year...
PeteRS8084 Posted June 13, 2015 Author Report Posted June 13, 2015 Lol, yeah it's funny the reaction a good old car still gets! The toe in is 2-4 mm on an rs, mine was miles out, so it was reset within those tolerances, and it drives in a straight line with no hands, so all good.........although I must state in this health and safety world I do not normally drive with out my hands on the wheel lol. Yeah the tester, Roy, even got his phone out for a couple of pics, and all the other guys there came and had a look round. I think loads of people would love to have a car of their youth, but circumstances won't allow. When I was driving down the a30 from the M25 thee was a guy I a silver focus who could see me coming down the outside lane and he was nearly out of his window looking. He drove along side me for about a mile. Loads of thumbs up lol. 1
ianb10 Posted June 13, 2015 Report Posted June 13, 2015 Yeah its a great feeling of both joy and relief when you get those words, "It passed". I had about 10 guys from the garage looking over my car when it was on the ramp for its MOT, the owner of the garage even offered me £8000 for it but I said sorry its not for sale. Well done on it passing and now you can enjoy another year of grin filled motoring. 2
2512pf Posted June 13, 2015 Report Posted June 13, 2015 Why is it everyone gets offered money for their cars at the mot station ??
katana Posted June 13, 2015 Report Posted June 13, 2015 Where is the station? I used to live in Sunbury and am still relatively local so would be good to know of a good 'sympathetic' MOT place - mine might actually get to need one this year...........possibly! 1
PeteRS8084 Posted June 13, 2015 Author Report Posted June 13, 2015 Paice motors, turn left by the over bridge before bookers, then follow the trading estate left, they are at the end. Good bunch of guys..............not out to rip you off.
browneskids Posted June 13, 2015 Report Posted June 13, 2015 Nice one, even better as you've just bought it (hanvt you??). Nice to know it was well looked after by the previous owner
