It was 2001 that CO2 ratings for VED were introduced but it was 2006 when they really went to town on high CO2 output cars.

 

I recall this as I owned a 2003 car at the time that would have fallen into goup L (currently £490) when it all changed in 2006. Fortunately the outcry from owners of existing cars forced a bit of a U turn and everything registered before March 2006 was capped at group K even if higher. An e36 or an e46 would take more driving, but would be quicker in any given situation and more rewarding inho.

You maybe right? Im not sure your average joe on the street would have the skill or testicles to give a m3 enough of an edge over something like a 197 or type r across country? Plus when has a m3 been a hot hatch? Its got a boot!
