Hi I've just bought this engine I've been told it's an rs2000 engine it's done 80000km about 60000miles I've had the head off it's got 42mm inlet valves 36mm outlet valves running a 32/36 DGAV and the bore measures 90mm across is this standard 110bhp as the rs spec is . I'm stripping it down and cleaning everything up plus repainting everything that's why I took the head off there is no lip on the top of the bore plus no play when try to wobble the piston from side to side . Hopefully a good buy . The cam is a ford h42 .

The block also has a year stamp on it ....on right hand side rear of engine mount in an oval start with a letter A for Jan B for Feb and so non then the year number so you can tell if the head goes with the block

Hi sorry for the delay it says m75 so does that mean 1975 ? And the head has 74hm6090ga in the cast under the cam .

Block would be 75, what shape are the inlet ports on head if there is a raised part at top of port then it would be an injection head which should be unleaded and have better flow characteristics than a carbd head.dont think you can tell looking at seats if unleaded or not, and will only be exhaust ones anyway.hope this helps

Thanks just edited post as found these other numbers in the cast the 87 I saw was 81 but that's in big numbers the other is small

It came from Germany with loads of spares from a collector he said it was a genuine rs2000 engine which came out of a car with 85000 km there is not much wear on the engine the block still has most of the black paint on it . Plus there is no tear drop ports

There's no difference between a normal 2ltr pinto and RS apart from ancillarys. They say the cam has a slightly higher lift on the RS denoted by a yellow mark on cam that's if it's still got original of which I very much doubt. The extra power given by that you could probably get by cleaning the ashtrays out and giving the car a polish lol

Was that the 32/36 DGAV rs manifold and alloy sump if so I got that much lol , there is a blob of blue paint on top of the middle bearing god knows what that is I must say it does look very clean for a 41 year old engine .

There worth a lot on there own without the block. Think you can also check by sump numbers if mk1 or mk2

Only paid a couple of hundred for it anyway so well worth that I think . Thanks for your help anyway looking forward to the rebuild and repainting it all plus gas flowing the head so should go a bit better than the 1.3 crossflow .

Will have a look sometime but the sump needs a good clean before that lol thanks again

As much as someone wants to pay to get a year correct rebuild, hard to say. Like some people will search for correct year RS wheels to make it right. To me a wheel is a wheel an Pinto is a pinto but to some it means the earth! But then I'm a supposed forum Anglia owning escort hater! Lol

Ok lol I see where your coming from hopefully should make the escort worth that little bit more fingers crossed and go abit better than the 1.3

The only thing that made an RS2000 engine different from a Pinto was the twin choke carb and a better flow twin exit cast exhaust manifold.

I can see why some obsess over the right engine in the right car with correct numbers, but that's not for me.

The Sierra injection engine with its slightly stronger rods and an unleaded injection head should IMHO always be the base engine to start from

Totally agree if you can find one :) this came up 10 miles away and to be fair it will be a lot quicker with a gas flowed head than the 1.3 . Plus the carb and sump are worth what I paid for it .
