had a bad week on the car
first the replacement door cards were the wrong size and shape, despite being genuine ford, then the repro wheel arch covers are so bad its untrue, 3 sets, one from each of east kent trim, aldridge and classic trim, that im having to get a set made at a trimmers, then i tried to fit a NOS carpet that i had dyed black, thats shrunk in the process and the pile has turned sour, i tried to colour another NOS one without success, both were originally tan, so then for something different, i decided to fit the dash switch panel, onl to find the NOS choke cable too short, so i fitted the old cable, now its been a couple of months since i started the car, but it was running swet 2 months ago, now it wont start, firstly i have no spark at any of the 4 plugs, but when i removed the plugs after trying, 1 and 4 plugs were dry as a bone, 2 and 3 were flooded, cleaned the plugs and tried again, only for the starter motor to give up, as it was turning the engine, it just stoped as if a brake had been applied to it, now i just clicks, put a remote starter occross the terminals of the solenoid and nothing apart from the remote starter wires get very hot very quick, put a brand new solonoid on, and no different, so i know it isnt that

so at this point i gave up, put the cover on the car about 1pm and decided to do something totally different lol

electronic ignition is not a road i wanted to go down really, as i wanted to keep originality, but i cant go thru this every time, so does anyone have any recomendations as to make etc that are readily available, as i hear so many horror stories, and it must maintain the rev counter

back in the day, you could get a little unit that strapped to the side of the distributor and a liitle bit replaced the points, these maintained the rev counter, are these even still available

im not looking for anything other than simplicity, most things today like to be over complicated for their own good

any advice greatly appreciated

For reliable ignition, easily fitted and well hidden, look out for Aldon ignitor set from Burtons. Had one fitted to my Cortina and it was great

Hi ray

Sorry to hear about your week. I don't blame you walking away an leaving it for a bit. That's what I had to do only last Friday!

I had accuspark electronic ignition in my last car no problems, and I see them featured in the magazines a lot.

Nice and discreet hides inside the dizzy cap and they also do uprated dizzys too, plus if you need help or advice I found them to be brilliant

Bloody old cars can be a right pain in the arse when they're not playing the game !
