There has been what I can only describe as a pause when your driving the car and releasing the clutch and after the pause you feel things kick in. I just assumed it was a slow take up of the clutch from being worn or old. I let a friend drive it the other day and he came back and said the diff backlash is fierce in the car so I thought have I diagnosed the problem in the wrong area? I always thought diff backlash would have a noisy clunk and there really isnt any noise when this problem occurs hence my though it was clutch slippage. Opinions most welcome.
colr6 Posted June 19, 2016 Report Posted June 19, 2016 Would have thought same as you a clutch problem, if there was such a delay there would be an almighty clunk. Possibly suggest clutch release bearing sticking on input shaft carrier.

There is some drive train noise on accelerator lift off but I always put that down to a worn gearbox bearing. I was just going to do the clutch and gearbox at the same time (eventually) but if its the diff then I would have to shuffle around my priority list. There is play in the diff when you rotate the driveshaft by hand. Im not sure if that test really means much though.
colr6 Posted June 20, 2016 Report Posted June 20, 2016 You will always feel some play through the prop can't go on that really unless it's about half a turn which would be a bit excessive
