Vista if this needs moveing to the events section please do so.

After having a chat with Vista, I am gauging interest in a tour/show in the Devon area next year.

For those who remember I tried to do something small on the turbosport forum. But weather scuppered our plans. Thinking of organising a drive around Dartmoor on the Saturday and then a show on the Sunday. It would be nice to keep this event to classic Fords but will see on numbers. It won't be open to new RS fords.

Not done anything like this before so any help or guidance would be great. Things like insurance to hold an event like this. Somewhere to use as a base. I mean if only 10 cars are interested then there is no point looking for somewhere big when a field and a portaloo will do. But 100 cars would need proper facilities.

Don't want to go big too soon but it would be nice to have an annual event in the south west area. If you think ford fair and classic ford show are Northampton. Ford festival and run was London to Brighton. Lake tour is Cumbria.

Your thoughts people?

Was looking into that mk2 Matt. Depends if we all want Dartmoor or Exmoor ?

I reckon either would work. River Dart Country park lends itself better for a run across Dartmoor, though Exmoor would be less of a trek for anyone coming from further afield.

We'd probably come to an event in Devon. Cornwall would be a bit far.

We organised something similar for a bike club many years ago - about 30 people. We arranged to camp in the field belonging to a pub and used their loo - with an informal arrangement we would buy food and drink there.

Both venues under consideration are in Devon Jayne. One near Exeter and the other near Ashburton. The Ashburton one is definitely better in terms of access to Dartmoor.

Get your coat! Hehe, I'd have a trip down, or across? Depending on when it is?

The objective is for it to be warm (and hopefully dry) but outside the height of the camping season for the venue, we're therefore looking at mid June so as to minimise the risk of a clash with Classic Ford Show

The weekend could most deffinatly be the 10th - 11th of June possibly. As I'm betting the weekend before is classic Ford show and sunday after is Father's Day. I've got about 7 cars on the Retards Club page too vista. Still early days.

Do we want traders on the Sunday Vista?? I know of 2 local ones.

I know what has been said about the timing, but do you want it that close to classic ford?

Problem is we don't know when Classic Ford is yet and aren't likely to until some time in September. We need to avoid the height of the camping season for the venue too.

Re traders? Is this your auto correct again vista :-D

As for being close to CF show. I'm personally not in love with the show anymore with more modern retro "classic" fords attending and since the last time I went in 2013 the show has shrunk and no rally school no drift demos.

I know vista gets involved with the show but personally at the moment I won't be making the drive from Plymouth next year.

No, it was an answer to your question about traders on the Sunday.

As to the observation about CFS, I am guessing it's in reference to whether people will want to make a long journey on two consecutive weekends. But let's not get ahead of ourselves, focus on relatively local interest with anyone who wishes to come from further afield being a bonus.
