jas Posted July 31, 2016 Report Posted July 31, 2016 Re doing par signal box at the moment signs done from left over paint from my cortina and some pics of what is under the box 2
Admin Vista Posted August 1, 2016 Admin Report Posted August 1, 2016 Is this still an active signal box then? I assumed all this stuff was done electronically now.
colr6 Posted August 1, 2016 Report Posted August 1, 2016 I googled it as been from the end of the earth, was unsure what and where it was. Wouldn't mind seeing a bit more of it restoration and so on, what it was like to as is now. Not a train spotter but like to see what other people restore
jas Posted August 2, 2016 Author Report Posted August 2, 2016 i sort some more pics of it and yes this box is still in use, as always with the railway it never seems to all get done devon and cornwall seems to always get forgot about.
Admin Vista Posted August 2, 2016 Admin Report Posted August 2, 2016 devon and cornwall seems to always get forgot about. You're not wrong there. Isn't the life of the HST getting extended as the Devon and Cornwall end of the main line isn't going over to electrified?
2512pf Posted August 2, 2016 Report Posted August 2, 2016 Is the signal box just by the fruit and veg shop? Opposite the pub at the bottom of the mount?

Group of us restoring this 117ton diesel locomotive. It's nice to see old things restored. Keep up the good work on the box. 4

Hatachi trains are meant to be replacing HSTs in 2018 but like you said delays will mean it probably won't happen
OSF Contributor Mexican Gerbil Posted August 2, 2016 OSF Contributor Report Posted August 2, 2016 That's at South Devon Railway isn't it? Do old diesel locos have the same following as Steam? Yep. South Devon railway at buckfastliegh. Not as much as steam. I could rant for hours about it but short story is people who run the railway remember steam. When the time comes that more don't remember steam and remember only diesels then this might change the way things get run. We have a small following.

Things like this need to be kept going so future generations can see what things where like not all iPads and computers. Like you say time will come when there is no one who can remember them let alone used them so need to be kept alive as with the same as a lot of things really. The time we are in now is a throw away society and 99% of things are made that way so what's going to happen then, nothing from the past to show people of bygone times. Keep up the good work. 2

Keep up the good work. Not here, repair of rotten wooden French patio doors in progress
jas Posted August 2, 2016 Author Report Posted August 2, 2016 This is one side of the box it is on the end of the platform at par station line one side off the box is the up to london other side is the newquay line which makes it a pain to work on as we have to take line blocks to put up and work of towers also have to stop working if the phone rings in the box to be fair the signal men are taking it well and not bad coffee. Removing paint and got lots of wood repairs on her and i will never moan about sanding cars again. 1

NudgerSS Posted August 4, 2016 Report Posted August 4, 2016 I'm fortunate to live near Barrow Hill roundhouse. Only place my grandad worked and took his 94 year old brother down to a steam fair there last year. He worked there for a year after being demobbed after the war. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk 3
