fiestachaser Posted September 25, 2016 Report Posted September 25, 2016 Hi, As title.I'm after a left hand drive type 9 bellhousing which has the starter motor on the opposite side. This I'm hoping will get round the problem of the starter motor fowling the steering joints on my Mk1 Cortina. If anyone knows any other solutions I'd be most grateful. Thanks, Stuart
colr6 Posted September 25, 2016 Report Posted September 25, 2016 Rs 2000 bellhousing has two starter holes. Think the Sierra has starter on n/s
colr6 Posted September 25, 2016 Report Posted September 25, 2016 Which side do you need the starter on Stuart ? I've got a Sierra one with starter on n/s and have clutch fork and might even have a bearing
fiestachaser Posted September 25, 2016 Author Report Posted September 25, 2016 Yes, got a normal type 9 bellhousing which is nearside.eviidently LHD models are off side. I dont think the rs2000 has a mount for cable clutch???
colr6 Posted September 25, 2016 Report Posted September 25, 2016 To use RS bell housing you have make a plate to house the cable in the unwanted starter hole
fiestachaser Posted September 25, 2016 Author Report Posted September 25, 2016 Right. I'll keep a look out for one of them. Thanks, Colin
buzzard Posted September 25, 2016 Report Posted September 25, 2016 As said . I used one on my taunus until I found a type 9 lhd bellhouseing . There was one on eBay for silly high money .
eeb43 Posted September 25, 2016 Report Posted September 25, 2016 late p100 turbo diesel has it on the drivers side might need to use a long shaft gearbox as well
colr6 Posted September 25, 2016 Report Posted September 25, 2016 late p100 turbo diesel has it on the drivers side might need to use a long shaft gearbox as well If this is possible would be a cheaper option than a RS bellhousing, re the input shaft if it's the middle one of the lengths then I have one. Can't see it being as long as a v6 one.
RWL81P Posted September 25, 2016 Report Posted September 25, 2016 Yes, got a normal type 9 bellhousing which is nearside.eviidently LHD models are off side. I dont think the rs2000 has a mount for cable clutch??? or use a lefthand drive sump too. they have a clutch cable fitting.
colr6 Posted September 25, 2016 Report Posted September 25, 2016 Could always go hydraulic save the hassle.
RWL81P Posted September 25, 2016 Report Posted September 25, 2016 Could always go hydraulic save the hassle. be the cheapest option too
fiestachaser Posted September 25, 2016 Author Report Posted September 25, 2016 Hi, the box is a 2.8 V6 box out of a Caterham with a spacer plate . How would `I go hydraulic clutch? The only option I have seen is a new bellhousing....mega bucks and you have to modify your release arm. I'll habve a look at p100 diesel bellhousings.
colr6 Posted September 25, 2016 Report Posted September 25, 2016 You could always cut input shaft down and get rid of spacer and fit type 9 hydraulic conversion.
fiestachaser Posted September 27, 2016 Author Report Posted September 27, 2016 Hi, Just looked at hydraulic kits. £150-180. Bumps my budget up and still have the problem of the starter on the wrong side. Will probably go LHD bellhousing and cable. Its not going to be mega spec engine so can live with the cable. Thanks for your ideas guys .Keep em coming.
Ken B Posted September 28, 2016 Report Posted September 28, 2016 To be honest i still think it will foul your steering link. The starter position on any pinto type housing is quite low even on the double sided RS type. I'd be inclined to use a Anglia 105e bellhousing starter on right side and slightly higher up with Milton adapter kit to attach it to a type 9 or type E gearbox. This is what the Anglia boys do when retaining original steering because of the similar fouling problem. It also allows the use of a Mexico hydraulic slave cylinder to operate the clutch. The kit is the best part of £200 again though.
fiestachaser Posted September 28, 2016 Author Report Posted September 28, 2016 Thanks for the info Ken. Another option to explore.
